The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Doltage - Nice work, great to go away on a stag do and not smoke! its been a while for you now since you stopped on the 31/3, how are you feeling?
Cheers jfox22, I've tried stopping smoking repeatedly over the years and I think this is the first time where deep down I've wanted to stop smoking and that reflected in my early and continued confidence, I've been feeling great over the past few weeks.
I've seen Champix hasn't been suited to some people but I'm using it and I think that it has helped me immeasurably, I didn't experience any nausea if I took the tablets with food, didn't experience weird dreams if I took them long enough before bed. I was a bit snappy but that's a side effect of not smoking I believe and I think I've put on at least a stone weight since I stopped (mars bars being my own downfall!)
A possible reason for feeling so good as well is that I know how hard it is to stop and I tell myself repeatedly that I'm doing great, my friends and family are also a great help and the support from this thread has been fantastic as well.
As others have said recently, if I can stop smoking, anybody can stop smoking!0 -
Well it looks like im gonna try and hopefully succeed in giving up after 16 years of smoking, but im a bit scared as i know my will power is not the best.
I've been reading through the forums and have read a bit about Champix but never heard of it before, tonight ive got to go and pick my Zyban from the doctors, so that will be a give up date of 7 days from tonight.
I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on these two drugs and if they have had sucsess with them. I wonder why my doctor didnt even mention the other one.
I have to admit im quite worried about it already , i really think i need to find a hobby to go with this as I feel most of the time im smoking for just the sake of it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Absulutely right lula - you can. I thought I was the kind of person who would smoke forever (or die trying). Now I can't believe that I persevered with smoking for so long!! (over 25 years btw).
Best wishes to all for a smoke free day, month, year, life:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -

Never thought I'd like being called an "old timer" but I definately do on this occasion!I'm now at 10 months 2 weeks and 5 days and still pinch myself now and again to remind me its true! My previous quit was 19 years ago and lasted 12 months (to the day
) so my personal marker is 12 months + but genuinely can't see me ever slipping back again, I'll be honest when I smell a freshly lit cigarette I occasionally get that longing  , but my mantra "not complacent but confident" keeps me on the straight and narrow - I'm just one cigarette from becoming a smoker again and I can't/won't let that happen! And do you know I actually feel like a non smoker now - I go days without even thinking about it!! Oops Lulu bet you weren't expecting an "update" of epic proportions
!
Hi TNG and fellow old timers and new timers - wishing you all a happy smokefree day!
love and hugs

Welcome to the Thread Superrug, I am pretty much a newcomer myself, and everyone is really friendly and helpful..
Good Afternoon Everyone... Hope you are all ok today, and smoke free of course. I am on day 5 of Champix so my quit date is creeping closer all the time... I have started to dread taking the tablet tho because of the sickly feeling...
Hope everyone is well, and crave free :T :T :T
Right, am going to catch up with todays postings..

Thanks Honey, how did you get this Champix, is it any better than Zyban ? Im just curious because no one on here appears to be using Zyban at all, i just hope it does what it says on the tin.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I just went and asked my Doctor for it, they tried to suggest Zyban to me, but I told them I would prefer Champix... (I didin't really - its just I had read alot about Champix, and nothing about Zyban)
I think Docs are a little wary of the Champix becuase its still a baby in the drug world... but it is available. I don't think they would give you it if you have a history of depression or mental illness.
Have you set a quit date yet?0
