I don't think you ever give up till you really want to .....no matter what you try.
I think thats absolutely right, and might explain why I never keep quits
  • NIGuy - what everyone says is true, you need for things to click in your head or you are just playing at it. When I went to see the nurse about quitting first time she said she knew I had it sussed from then on in. She has said since that she can just tell the ones that will make it and those that won't because of the way they speak.

Don't get me wrong, it is still bl00dy tough and I LONG to have a cigarette some days but deep inside I KNOW that my life is much, much better without smoking and that I cannot let myself lose the benefits that I have now experienced.

You need to be ready to quit for YOUR OWN sake, each of us has different reasons and (I know it is a terrible, terrible thing to say on this site) but I am not convinced that the money you will save is enough.

Having said all that - get your @rse into gear man, make your mind up and bl00dy give up the fags - you will find all the support you need here...if you want it :D

I was petrified of trying to stop. Even booking my appointment to see the nurse had me shaking and in tears. Seeing her I was openly sobbing. I even had the Champix at home for three weeks before I plucked up the courage to start them. And I did want to stop just the fear of how it would be was stopping me. I had tried many times before and all of them obviously failed attempts and all of them nightmare and (I really do mean nightmare from the cramps to the waking up sobbing with a craving, the migraines, the vomiting, the alienating friends and family)

But the champix took all that away and I smoked my last Jan 13th :)

Its not been a walk in the park, I still can have major cravings, but I dont want to smoke so I get through them.

NIguy if you really wanted to stop smoking you would. Dont let the fear ever stop you doing anything

One day, 22 hours, 31 minutes and 29 seconds. 48 cigarettes not smoked, saving £10.42. Life saved: 4 hours, 0 minutes.

That's my stats right now, so I am doing well. But that was because I basically parked myself in front of the tv and had firefly marathons, got a lecture today with a smoking mate, I'll be hard pressed not to nick one off of her.
Not an expert, but I try and contribute and I'll always listen. Middle child of middle child parents. I drink way too much coffee.

Well, so far I hit the 2week mark yesterday... but I dunno if youd say it's cheating but I have had a couple of spliffs still. Not something I do a huge amount and I'm still keeping with the no smoking ciggies. So don't judge me ;). So still quite happy about it for the moment.

Definately feeling anxiety about quitting at times though and feel the need for a ciggie and sometimes slightly naucious (I know, I cannot spell). This is the only encouragement I even get for doing this, people at work mock slightly even though they agree it should be done. The misses is just stressed at the moment and smoking loads anyway hehe. I chose my moments well, lol.

    everyone wants to quit!

    Hi all :hello:

If you looked at it absolutely honestly and could turn back the clock to the moment you had your first fag, would you smoke it, knowing what you know now? I don't think anyone would say yes

The problem is that your brain has convinced you that in order to scratch the 'itch', you need to have a fag. All you have to do is to not scratch it. It sounds a lot easier than it is, I know (believe me, I know  ), but that is the simple truth of it

Find the method that works for you! if you've tried Allen Carr, try Neil Casey. If you've tried that, try Champix. The list of options is quite large. Keep going until you find the one that clicks for you.

It'll be the best thing you ever do......

*that post was not directed at anyone in particular, just general advice for those thinking about stopping *

Thats so true TNG, just have to keep trying everything that's available until you find what suits you.

Feedumall, I had to keep trying to quit. Every time I failed I just hated smoking more. I just really couldn't even pretend that I enjoyed smoking. The smell was the worse. Then my health really did start to suffer, I was diagnosed Emphysema in 2002 and still I couldn't/wouldn't stop. But my grandson was born 18 months ago and I really do want to have time to enjoy him so I had to "feel the fear and do it anyway" - and Im glad I did :)
