Hi Vicola - Congratulations on getting to 5 days!! - I am only on my 2nd day and am using full strength patches. What Jo says is absolutely true, the patches do seem to help although they don't (unfortunately) stop you actually thinking about cigs. However, the main thing is that you don't seem to get that hugely irritable feeling that I always find with going cold turkey; Be kind to yourself go out and get some patches..
Good luck

Well done Vicola and Choccy - giving up is giving up and there is no shame in using any/every method available!
Vicola perhaps have a chat with a no smoking advisor at Boots - maybe because you've already gone 5 days cold turkey the nrt chewing gum or lozenges may help and take the edge of the mood swings. I know how they work I was terrible but it was amazing how reaching 1 week was a real psychological booster and they began to drop off around then ... honest!!
Hi Jo hope all is good with you.
I was proud of myself last night my first night out without any cigarettes and must admit the smoke free environment not only helped but was really pleasant! It was great coming home not stinking!!
Anyway first day of the hols today and what have we got serious torrential rain and flash flooding - oh the joy of the British weather!
Take care all love and hugs

Well done everyone for sticking with it. I'm just coming up for two weeks and think I've saved about £75 so far. I'd forgotten I had stopped smoking until I saw this thread reappear at the top of the list !!!!0

Found this thread lurking over on page 6 .... what going on - nobody chatting lately!!!?? All good with me, well not good really - still have moments where I could murder a fag but riding it and was out again last nigh bro in law 60th bday he's a lifelong smoker and a notorious for saying "go on ave one you know you want to ..." so I was dreading it, but thankfully despite his remarks (and in his favour there weren't too many) I declined and am now only 1 day away from my 4 week milestone.
My mantra remains the same "NOT COMPLACENT BUT CONFIDENT".
To anyone out there considering stopping or already stopped and wavering I say if I can do it you can - I genuinely believed I was a lifer but here I am a quitter and happy to be! And don't look into the future take each day/hour/minute as it comes.
love and hugs to all

I'm still here, had a mini version of the flu since Wednesday, kinda up and about but wanting to cry cos of the aching and headaches. But feel a lot better today, took the kids out to town, big mistake, spent a fortune, ah well enjoyed meself
We are all doing so well, I'm still not confident enough to come off the patches wish I could stay on them forever!
Well done everyone :TDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Jo
sorry to hear you've not been well - hope you're feeling 100% soon. Spending always helps me feel better too - and we have an excuse now cause of all the money we're saving not buing ciggies - lol!!! As your patches are reduced I'm sure you'll barely notice the reduction. We really are doing well and I thank you daily (in my head) for this thread - I definately think this is what has made the difference for me this time!
Take care hon.
love and hugs

Thanks IDA
Unfortunately I can't reduce the patch strength cos i started on step 3!!
I gave up a few years ago using step 1 as I smoked 40 a day but had a really bad reaction where I actually ended up passing out and my GP said that there was something in that high strength patch that didn't agree with me and advised me to try step 2 which I did which was fine. Although I obviously started again or I wouldn't be here. So this time I started straight out on step 2 although i was only (only?) smoking 20 a day when I gave up and it made me very very light headed. I stuck it out for a week or so like they advise and I couldn't physically cope with it so I decided to stick with step 3 which I'm doing fine on. So I think, although I've had no medical advice, that I should be able to stick with this step for the entire time that other people do all 3 steps?? Who knows, but that's what I'm gonna do :rotfl:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
I'm sure that would be fine. Perhaps as the time for stopping them draws near you could cut them in half?
Take care.

Just popping on to remind myself that I really don't want a cigarette and they are not my friends and life is really no different, in fact, infinately better since I got rid of them!!
There thats done it - another craving bites the dust. Just wish they'd go completely!! Oh well onwards and upwards as they say.
love and hugs all
