  • Well done Jane on setting your day. First thing to do is set your silk quit metre (remember its on page 1 of this thread), then see if you can get hold of Allen Carr of Neil Casey (not literally though!) and start reading. If you want to try nrt perhaps the gum or lozenges will be a good start and they seem to be on offer everywhere at the moment. I use the deep breathing from my labour perhaps you could start that in preparation of your pregnancy/ birth - when it happens you will be an expert -lol!! The main advice is don't look too far ahead, don't even take it a day at a time, I initially took it an hour at a time!! Good luck - we here for you and in it together. Love n hugs

Hi everybody :hello: , seems like everyone is doing well! Well done Jane, those are really good reasons for giving up! I've been smoke free for nearly 3 days now, and its been ok this weekend. Friday night I was so desperate though! Didn't give in. The SilkQuit meter is really good, especially at reminding you how much money you've saved. Its really helping me keep going.

Hope everybody has had a smoke free weekend :T

Well I'm only a few hours away from 3 weeks and I should be thrilled, instead I'm annoyed with myself for not being happy - I just feel miserable and would love a fag - even though I know that isn't the answer and would achieve nothing (so I don't plan too) but I still can't help feeling like I want one. I'm sure its just my normal "down" time of the month and normal service will resume asap in the meantime sorry for being such a misery ar** I promise to get over if.
    Thanks for being there.

And you've done fantastically well so far :D

I'm doing much better this time - my head is so in the right place! the cravings are slowly going and I am finding I feel a little better already (yes, I know it could be pg symptoms easing, but I'm really not that far gone!). Perhaps it is down to the cigs going? I don't know. I really want to keep it up though. there are no cigs in the house which really helps - Oh said he'd give up but so far has made no effort to.

    Hi.
Is there room here for another? :o
I've been having a lot of sleepless, wheezy nights recently and took my last cigarette last Monday morning. I have to be honest I've tried so many times before. But this time I think the wheezing has unnerved me a little and I'm more determined than ever. You see, my 2 young daughters lost their mum to cancer 3 years ago, and as you can imagine I don't want them to be orphans at any time in the forseeable future. For me it's all about health - the tobacco was so cheap anyway (bulk purchases from abroad) that the money-saving side of it really isn't an issue for me. I want to do it for the kids and for my long term health. I've been paranoid for some time that the 'Big C' might come to get me. :( I've actually really not enjoyed smoking that much over the last 2 or 3 years and my head has constantly been telling me to give up. Perhaps its paranoia after losing the wife, or perhaps my body has been telling me something.

Anyway, the past week has been fine - I've been on the 15mg (step 2) patches since Monday. BUT.......yesterday morning I forgot to change it and went through the whole day wearing the same patch as the day before....which had run out of course, as they only last 24 hours! I was pretty pleased with myself, and in fact I haven't put one on today either. :j

To be honest I'd done 4 days on patches the week before but succumbed when I had a beer with some neighbours (surprise surprise). I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I think I could easily kick the habit if I gave up drinking as well. But I just find it so difficult to have a beer without a fag. In fact I hate it, I really do. And I'm gagging for a cold beer from the fridge right now, but I'm scared becuase I think I'll give in and have a ciggie with it.

So, I hope you can make room for me on this thread, it'll be nice to hear how others in the same boat are getting on, and I'd also welcome hearing from anyone who has the same problem when it comes to having a pint or two. Any helpful tips would be greatly welcomed, although I think to be honest the only answer is determination. :(

  • Welcome Pablo- nice to have you aboard - you're doing great already! And I so agree determination is the key - I find humour helps too! Take care.

Hi Pablo, well done for quitting! I find it the most difficult when I have a drink or a coffee. One way would be to avoid those things all together, but have you read Allen Carr? He has some really good methods for getting you to think like a non-smoker, so when you have a drink you don't feel like you're missing anything. I would recommend reading that definately. Good luck and well done!
