  • I went to the gym yesterday to be inducted or to have induction? Anyway some young lad showed me how the stuff worked and now I will be able to go on the stuff on my own. One of the things I went on was a bike and I burned off 10 calories. I was so chuffed. I told my daughter in law she laughed and said it was a half of a digestive. She is wrong isn't she?
Take care all, lovely to meet the newbies,
    ILA

    Good Going :j :j

I'd love to join a Gym. I just hate those places so much.

I have an exercise bike at home (I do actually use it quite a lot) which does the calorie count. Yes, this might scare some but a Digestive Biscuit actually has 74g of Calories in it! BUT (and here's the best bit)

You don't actually do yourself much good doing a short amount of exercise. I believe you start getting the benefits after about 30 minutes. But once you do, you really, really do get the benefits!

So the answer here is, build your time up, get those first 30 minutes under your belt and start seeing those calories go flying off!

/me makes a note to oneself to start getting back on the bike seriously again! One London-to-Brighton a cyclist does not make!
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

There must be a million adverts on TV each day all making quitting look like the most terrifying thing you can do.

    :T :T :T :T :T :T

They sooooo annoy me. What's the opening line? "Everyone knows how hard it is to stop smoking......." Way to give people confidence   sheesh! I want to rant at the TV, but OH would think I'm patronising her :o:o

    Morning all

Must start doing some exercise myself :o Either I'm putting on weight or my feet are shrinking   . Don't fancy joining a gym (drive 4 miles to run 5 on a machine  !!!!!!?). Would do cycling, but I'm in London, home of the selfish motorist. Might take up karate or something.......

Well done Tilly, getting through all that with just the odd sniff!! That'll soon pass and you won't like the smell...

    Have a great smoke-free day all :j :j

    I had a really bad night, no1 son said he'd seen dh having a crafty smoke while I was at work - I was fuming particularly as giving up was his (dh) idea (again) and mainly for him in terms of his heart condition! Anyway didn't say anything initially just fumed (as only a woman can - lol) eventually mentioned the fact that his "patch" was on the dressing table and had he had a cigarette - he denied it and I didn't push it. Still seething but as I calmed I was bizarrly grateful for a number of reasons;
    • no1 son may have been wrong - he's 19 so unlikely but possible
    • dh hasn't smoked in front of me and I certainly haven't smelled it
    • if he has cracked and he told me, the reality is I would probably have cracked too and given up giving up - if you see what I mean!
So to that end I'm still here and still stopped and determined to stay that way!

Hope you're all having a good day. Take care

Ok, I had my last cig at 4pm yesterday, and so far so good. Have resisted taking any gum because I would like to get the nicotine out of my system as quick as possible to hopefully reduce any cravings. Glad I've got them though, because in a moment of weakness I will have a gum instead of a cig.

Did anyone else get a really bad headache? Had one last night and this morning, had a couple of paracetemol and its gone now. Wondering if its the actual withdrawal effects or just from stressing about giving up! I'm on chapter 9 of Allen Carr, and he's made some really good points.

Can't say I don't miss it at all, but its not as bad as I thought it would be. Hope it stays like this for my first full day as a non-smoker! Hope everyone has a good day today.

    Morning all

Tilly, hope you're mum is ok, what happened to her? Well done you on not smoking through the stress yesterday.

TNG, you did make me laugh about your feet shrinking! I know what you mean about cycling in London, I work in SE1 and there are tons of cyclists around. There's a main road which has one lane for traffic and one lane for motorcyclists, cyclists and buses, but do you think that makes a difference? I was at the bus stop this morning and thinking to myself that they take their life in their own hands cycling through London!

Well we are doing well aren't we, feeling quite chuffed at the moment that I don't stink of smoke and my teeth are noticably whiter! I've decided to take up a new hobby to keep me occupied, I'm taking up gardening! So lots of fresh air for me!

  • Grr what is about this time of day that makes me weaken??? You'd think after all this time I'd be ready for it or atleast it would get easier - but today its worse than ever and I've even had the "just the odd one" conversation in my mind - how stupid is that!!! Perhaps Mr O'Teen knows he's loosing his grip and this is his attempt at ensnaring me again??? I really must stay focussed and remind myself I'm not "giving up" anything as TNG keeps saying. I'm worried about the school holidays too as at work I don't really thing about cigarettes but weekends are tough. Will just have to develop some strategies like coming on here whenever a craving hits - lol!!
Hope you're all having a smoke free day.
    love n hugs

If you've tried quitting before, just try and remember how foul the first cigarette will taste and how angry you'll be at how pointless it was. Go on, you know you can do it.

I'm finding this a lot more difficult then I first thought. Was really tearful in the afternoon for no particular reason, had a gum which I didn't want to do and it did calm me down. Its awful knowing that without the cigs I turn into a head case! Definately going through peaks and troughs. Feeling light headed as well.

Thats my rant of the day over, hope everyone's days were a lot easier than mine!
