    stay strong K!

The brain is a marvellous thing. It will try and convince you in many different ways that you want to smoke - don't let it!! Write it down if you have to. When you want a cigarette, write down why you 'want' one. Then beside that, write down the reasons why you shouldn't have one. Even the act itself should be enough for the moment to pass, failing that, you'll have a pretty convincing list!!!!

It's the brain's survival technique, believe it or not, to persuade you to smoke!! Oh yes. it has associated having a cigarette with relieving the mild anxiety you feel, without twigging that it is the cigarettes that caused the anxiety in the first place.

    Best wishes

  • I've just completed my first three days. No major withdrawal symptoms. Now what happens ? Have these cravings passed forever ? Only the chemical ones ?

p.s. that's over three packets saved. £12 tax that Mr Brown won't be getting from me anymore !!!!
  • TNG just noticed you're coming up to your twelve month anniversary :T - apparently you will then be allowed to call yourself a non-smoker officially, up until 12 months we are just ex-smokers - I can't believe people can be so anal about what we are called  but to some its very important ....lol!! As far as I'm concerned I'm happy to be a quitter!!!
Well done Kirsty for hanging in there, I do the deep breathing (used in labour - lol) but it works ... oh not forgetting my lovely pink tongue!!
Take care all - hang in there.

  • We're doing well everyone :D:D:D

    Keep going Kirsty.

    As far as I'm concerned, I'm a non-smoker, not an ex-smoker.

People can think what they like ;););)

Had a stressful morning today (including threatening court action). Kept my cool and didn't even consider a cigarette until afterwards. Realised that I'm now a non-smoker so kicked that one to the back of my brain and got on with it.

One week, three days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 24 seconds. 211 cigarettes not smoked, saving £48.46. Life saved: 17 hours, 35 minutes.
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Blimey! I never thought in my smoking days that this would happen. I once stopped for about 15 months, but 'craved' all the way through and didn't expect to for some reason. this time though, I KNOW I've cracked it. I can't believe I spent over two thirds of my life under the spell of nicotine. I know exactly how Allen Carr felt when he had his 'moment of revelation' and decided to rid the world of smoking. If I could I'd bang on about to anyone who would listen.... oh... hang on..... I do - on here :o:o

tootie - you are now less tense than you would be if you had just had a cigarette. Well done. You have passed that mark. After four or so days there won't be any trace of nicotine in your system and you will not get any physical symptoms. By the sounds of things you are doing quite well on the mental side of things too. :T :T :T :T

Everyone looking good tonight - well done. IDA - looking quite celestial with all those stars - very well deserved too.
Had a fraught day and began to look at the wallpaper with a view to peeling it off, rolling it and smoking!! I get more pathetic as the days go by!!!!

The silkquit meter is telling me that I have saved a whole 20 hours of my life - had a minor domestic with DH in saying that he had to make them really amazing - which led him to muttering about it not being his responsibility to make the extra hours amazing - silly man, you would think after 17 years of marriage he would have learned - we share and share alike - he has never smoked but needs to share the pain of giving up, just like he did that of childbirth and the PMT to which he is such a martyr! ;)

Clothes starting to feel a little too snug for comfort, so maybe it is time to stop the 'I'm depriving myself in one area, so I'll pig out' mentality. Mind you we still have a huge amount of the baking from Sunday - the way I coped without cigarettes on a rainy day with nothing to do - anyone for prune muffins?

Take care all and keep going - once again, thank you for all your support - I've never lasted this long before and I know it is down to everyone here.

    Tilly

  • Tilly it really is down to you but I share your faith in the comfort that this thread gives - sharing the pain, the pleasure (?) and the humour of our trial makes it so much more fun(?)!!! Well makes it a little easier anyway!
Hope everyone is doing well anyone out there weakening don't worry you're not condemned, just jump back onboard!!
    Take care all.

  • Goodness me how well are we all doing?? This is on page 4 and no one has been on yet today!!! All okay with me - thinking about it (smoking) more today than recently because I'm not in work. Just keep doing the breathing. Hope you're all doing well. speak soon.
