How many did you used to smoke a day? Saving 30 quid after a week sounds a bit low.

I have been free for 4 months now and only saved £38.92. Brought my baccy abroad and rolled my own. Financial was not the reason for me. Smoking ban has helped though as you do not smell it in pubs/clubs now.

five pounds a day for six days 30 pounds ,i smoked about twenty a day still got one packet left so would have smoked 6 packets:eek:
  • Want to respond to you all so bear with me!!

shinyhead - this is not a competition about who smoked what or who saved what, or even who gave up what and when, this is a thread for support. Whether you smoked 60 a day or 2 a day you will still be affected, both mentally and physically, by giving up and no-one should have to justify that their smoking was any better or worse than anyone elses.
If you just got me on a rant I apologise but please do not challenge people because they didn't smoke enough for you...(it is very likely that I am ranting - I am partway through giving up smoking!! ;) )

    YM - 4 months :T what more can I say :T

feedum - :T :T shame about the hail! You have inspired me to get my SS paints out and have a go again - I used to paint a little (when I was a student and it was the only way to get painitings I liked in my home) and I loved it...even if it all ends up in the bin it is SOOO therapeutic!!

Win2K - welcome in - sounds like you are getting there :T good on you!

Taxi - lets be honest, the side effects of giving up are horrific and go on and on, I am now 3 weeks in and I am still suffering. Just keep thinking whatever thoughts made you quit in the first place and remember that however bad it is coming out of you it was doing more damage inside of you. Stay strong

Belnahua - that is my nightmare - if someone put a cigarette in my hand right now then I honestly couldn't say I wouldn't smoke it. That is why I am so in awe of the people who give up with cigs all around them - I am far too weak for that! You should be proud of yourself :D

LMTP - as I said with Taxi - it feels like sh1te giving up but it is better than still smoking - you go girl

tattycath and jo - bless you, it's so nice to know you are around and supporting us quitting newbies even though you are there yourself, I hope we are doing you proud :D

ab - I agree with your pm (have been thinking about it and made my mind up today) - where have you been my quitting buddy??? missing you :p

  • thought I had better post again and say I wasn't up for a fight shinyhead...I just don't want people to be put off coming here for support because they 'don't smoke enough'

I apologise if that wasn't what you meant...

I am going to be a pain the arras now. The quitting pangs you get are a pain but nothing major IF you are certain you want to stop. I have had major pangs before but have since realised that I was not ready to give up. When I stopped this time I was certain I would never smoke again and I have not had any major pangs at all. It has been quite painless actually and has made me realise that before I was not ready. If anyone is trying to stop do not be put off by the horror stories about the withdrawal symptoms you will go through . IF you are certain you want to give up You will and its not that bad.

  • YM - I completely agree and hope that I am not the cause for concern.

I have found my 21 days surprisingly okay, I can't sleep, I have no control of my body temperature, I have struggled with my temper/attitude and my body is doing stuff I don't understand - but having said all that it has not affected any thoughts of giving up...it's not that bad really, the alternative is worse IYSWIM...

But I am only 3 weeks in...I welcome any words of wisdom.

I have had a constant cold since I stopped. I have been tired and sometimes grumpy. We all suffer this if we are smokers or non smokers. I try not to blame it on the fags because if i did i could spend the rest of my life wanting a cigarette and not being able to have one. What sort of life is that . Why moan about not smoking. This is the difference between attempting to give up and STOPPING.. One is using the phrase "giving up". What are you giving up. Sweet FA. Stopping is easy. Dont light a fag. Get on with things and it becomes very enjoyable to not smoke. I apologise to anyone who is really struggling out there to give up but,I hope, that one day you will feel like I do. I have done the apprenticeship (27yrs) so I now what you are going through.

Never give up ,giving up though

Hi, back after walking the dog. Yesterday went out in shirt sleeves tonight went out like Scott of the Antarctic!
After posting my question I realised it probably didn't include the pack you had left with 18 in. Just thought that if you're trying to motivate yourself by counting up how much you've saved then you were underestimating.

One thing that really helps keep me going now is that I've saved up £450 fter 13 weeks!

Sorry, don't mean it to sound like a competition, just trying to come up with more thoughts to stop from sliding back...

oh yellowmonkey you star i didn't want to say anything but you are so right . ok now and then i think oh i could have a ciggy now,but nothing major .i will not smoke ever again ,thought others were suffering more than me ,and each day i thought is this the day it gets me ,but day eight tomorrow ,and im okay,i know i can do this ,mind over matter ,or just a stubborn so and so:confused:.probably wake up in the morning with two heads and have to eat my words hay ho .mfd that sounds like me when i did smoke :o
  • ym - are you an alan carr quitter??? (I know you are not supposed to say you are giving anything up la la la)

I clearly have argumentative head on me tonight so I am going to bed but whatever you want to call it, or indeed not call it, I have now for 3 weeks been trying to give up, quit, whatever else I cannot call it, my 16 year habit of smoking. I have not smoked, I will not smoke but I BL00DY WELL have given something up!!!!!

Whoever wants to tell me I have not given something up is frankly talking a completely different language and addiction to mine.

Maybe I am not far enough down the road but tell anyone who has newly given up that they are not foregoing an aspect of their life that they need or enjoy and I am sorry, I haven't got a clue where you are coming from.

I am sure I will regret this post tomorrow but I just don't buy the carp about changing the words because it changes the meaning! A spade is a SPADE after all!!
