you know when you first quit and cant stop thinking about cigs, well ime starting my second month and i reckon i think about it about 10 times aday,is there somebody whos been quit a bit longer who can tell me do you think about it less and less as time goes on. does thin make sense thanks ab
Hi AB
Well done for keeping smoke free for a month and getting to the part where you hate the smell of it, me too. It is right that the further into quitting you get the less you think about it. I used to literally have dreams about it and often woke up rubbing the 2 'smoking fingers' together to make sure I really DIDN'T have one lit up and puffing, though I was convinced I did. The relief that it was all a dream was brilliant.

Mornin ab!
Mine are white - I haven't smoked in the house since I got married! I think that makes it easier somehow (says the one who lapsed!) but not wanting to just light up whilst sat watching tv etc makes the temptation much less. So if anyone is thinking of giving up soon I would suggest stopping smoking inside first (you won't believe how much nicer your house smells almost immediately).
So here I am, day 3 again :T
A few thoughts -
- does anyone else have problems with things tasting of smoke / nicotine when they are on patches? I have only been on them since yesterday and my mouth feels funny, I have an ulcer on my tongue and even water tastes foul. Do you think my dose is too high?
- I think I have found a cure for wanting to smoke in the car (a big downfall for me) which is singing along to the radio at the TOP of my voice (which means I am breathing deeply). I did 3 whole songs with la la la as the only lyrics yesterday! (my commute is 45 mins)
- going back to see the nurse today for another blow on the thingy and another patches prescription. Mine is an ex-smoker and I think it makes a massive difference to my confidence in her because she seems to understand what I am going through.
- have been spending a lot of time talking to dh about how I am feeling (nurse's suggestion) he has never smoked and doesn't understand, which really bothered me before, but now I am telling him all about it he is really listening and really sympathetic and supportive which is exactly what I need. He even turned the tv off to listen to me last night :A
Enough about me - well done all who are keeping off the cigarettes, and if you have fallen by the wayside come back in, fess up and start all over again!

day 3 for you, one of the hardest, be strong soon be day 4smoke free since 16 feb 080 -
Hi guys, its been a while since my last post. Just came on to say its 6 weeks today since I gave up, and yes it does get easier, I hardly ever think about smoking now, and when I go near other smokers the smell is disgusting to me, whereas before I would have been sniffing them if they had just had a cigarette. The downside is I have put on a stone, a whole stone in 6 weeks, thats all the little ones cookies I keep stealing!! However was at the doctors the other day and he asked if I did a lot of sport as my heartrate was extremely good, so stopping smoking has made me healthier but fatter!!! Good luck and well done to everyone! Sharon0

2boysmum- I'll join you on the weight gain- 10 pounds for me, and I'd only just lost it!!!
But would definitely rather that than smoke.
I do sometimes have a stronger rather than frequent cravings- I have one right now actually as I have just had a coffee, but I'm trying to get back into "normal" life- I was not drinking alcohol or coffee, not going out etc but I'm starting to now, just without smoking.
To someone who asked - yes am gonna do the 3 months on champix, well I did 2 weeks on a trial and then 3 months - so 14 weeks in all! Its a bit like my crutch!
My oh is still smoking, got into his new car yesterday and he'd had a fag in there when he had said he wouldnt, it really smelled and I though "You poor thing"!!Compulsive Spendaholic #150 -
hello everyone I'm quite new to the borad and am trying to quit smoking... and having read through some of the forum I wanted to get involved!!!
I don't really want to smoke while I am and hate the fact that I get a tenner out of the machine to buy cigs then spend extra while in the shop and have to do the whole thing again the next day (honestly my bank statement looks horrendous lol!) Thing is when I think I'll quit I suddenly decide I can afford it for one more day!! Have quit in the past (for three weeks) usin the alan carr easy way thing and a lot of made it made so much sense I only really caved at work to start with!!! So I'm digging out my copy tonight and am going to really try to quit on friday (long way off I know bit I'm off for long wkend and it's work I find hardest... think if I quit over wkend I'll find it easier lol!) and fingers crossed will be saving myself all that lovely money!!!
Does anyone have any hints and tips to help? esp when it comes to not stuffing my face with choc in the meantime... just lost two stone and it's hard!! Don't want to have to start all over againTotal Debt March 2008 - £9232.19  Virgin loans £5188.80, Halifax OD £2,456.94, Barclaycard £699.60, Virgin Credit card £532.25, Capitalone £354.60 (no idea as they refuse to send me statements now! updating figures as I get them!)
