It would be a real shame to cave in now, and after you had one, what then? nothing really changes. Best be in the best possible health you can be, and by quiting the cigs thats a giant step forward, please don't underestimate your achievement:confused:

    Keep Strong.

Only had to chew 4 pieces of gum yesterday, I know i was really tetchy and a bit short with my family but they are being sooooo supportive i just can't thank them enough. Had breakfast this morning and after breakfast is when i would have had the only cig that i enjoyed so everyday that i get by that post is the biggy for me. Keep going everyone we can beat this!!!!!

morning all what a lovely day
rossy nearly over the worst, i think the weekend is hardest, just going for the paper then cutting the grass ttfn
smoke free since 16 feb 08
  • Hi all, Mark here,

Quit date 02-02-08 so starting week 5 smoke free today. :j

It's not easy and I still do have the occassional urge but have managed to resist despite Hannah having tobacco in her handbag just behind me.

I am using the microtabs and find them to be better than other ways I have tried. I find I can go hours now without thinking about smoking or the tabs.

I have used the Sainsbury's stop smoking service and find them really supportive. All 3 pharmicists know me up there now and will ask how it is going every time I pass the counter, which is really encouraging.

H is now banished to he garden, so I'm hoping that a spell of bad weather will make her give up as well, though I'm not going to nag her.

Best of luck to all you new non-smokers. Just think of the health and wealth benefits and keep going.
Nearly there! Been struggling for 7 years but the results are showing. :j

Hi all i have decided to stop smoking tomorrow as i can no longer afford it..and i want to be debt free sooner than planned. But i really need support. I have some patches in the drawer also but shall i use them?
For everyone who knows me and as i have said before first thing i do is go to the back door for a cig as soon as i wake..BUT NO this morning i came down and led on the settee for about 5-10mins..before having one without even realising. I know its not long 5-10mins but i was dead chuffed with myself.

    edited to ask whats champix??
back soon i need to do a meal plan and check me freezer fridge etc

    Hello,

Found your post, I cannot comment on the Champix as I am as in the dark as you are. this is my 3rd day of quitting, 2nd day without any nicotine replacement. Well done to you for not having that cig, my worst time is also the mornig, after breakfast, that was the only cig of the day i actually 'enjoyed'. Support is important and this thread looks really good, everyone seems supportive. Good luck with the quit and everyone is here to help.

    Take care

Mumzyof2 - well done the first day is the hardest I know I am on day 3 today so keep with it!! Champix is a tablet that your GP can prescribe for you which blocks the receptors in the brain that give you pleasure when you smoke. You start taking the tablets before you stop smoking and when they kick in ( its an increasing does initially) you realise you get no pleasure from smomking so get the "what's the point of carrying on" feeling which then helps you quit.

How are you getting help patches/gum/microtabs?? If you have not been to get help either go to your GP/ Practice nurse or one of the pharmacies in Boots/ Tesco/ Sainsburys or go on line to Clikto Quit I think it is and seek advice there - hope you stay strong!

I managed ok on Sat and Sun even though DH is still smoking - he doesn't smoke in the house and I have now asked him to stop smoking in the car for a while - hopefully he will try and give up as well next month!!

Today is first day at work as a non smoker and it is tough but I have made it through half of the day!

    £15.75 saved so far!!

have you thought about NRT? Gums, patches, etc.. especially if you are struggling cold turkey, you get them through your local surgery by attending a stop smoking clinc for the price of a perscription.

Champix is a tablet that is taken for 3 months, and the OP is right it lessens the desire to smoke, in the end i was nearly physically sick smoking before stopping, as you continue smoking for the first couple of weeks. I am now at a month with no smoking and its working for me, i don't even think about it, and my wife and son smoke. You need to see your GP about champix as some are ok about prescribing and some are not due to cost.
  • Hiya all!

I've had a blip :o I never made it through day 5

I was doing okay, lots of side effects but going alright. Until I got drunk on Friday night - BIL teased me asking if I wanted a fag, I was moaning that I did but I couldn't and DH said 'if you want a fag just go and have one'...

...at which point I lost my temper. I think I have said on here before that he is just ignoring the fact that I have quit - he says he doesn't talk about it because he doesn't want to 'remind' me that I am not smoking  what planet is he on??? As if I can forget that I am not smoking

So anyway, I lost my temper, shouted my head off a DH about not supporting me and why was I bothering if he was just going to tell me to smoke anyway and stomped over to the cigarette machine to buy some and smoke them.

I then proceeded to cry about how much I had let myself down :o

Have been dreading coming to talk to you lot all day but a problem shared is a problem halved and all that - I need to be honest with myself and with you lot or I will never kick this.

Congrats to all the milestoners and newbies keep it up - learn from my mistakes!
