Firstly, im bored, smoking breaks the boredom. My biggest single problem. Go on, get your laughing gear around that, try that for size.
So what happened before you started smoking then? Were you constantly bored? You need to find something else to take away the boredom, I'm not going to list things you can do as only you know what you're interested in. Try having healthy snacks when you want to smoke, that will keep you occupied.
Or, contribute to this thread instead of having a fag, that always worked for meDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Morning people, bad news I caved in and went to tesco last night and bought 10, I felt better instantly! The good news is that I haven't smoked any of them, I just carry them around with me and I don't really want to smoke one anyway as I'll just feel dizzy and sick!!
I will just have to see how it goes! Anyway today is day 3 and I'm still a little narky but not as narky as I have been! Having a packet of cigs with me is my comfort blanket!:DKate

I carried around some nicotine lozenges for the first couple of weeks, I didn't use any of them, but they acted as my comfort blanket.
Whatever gets you through!0 -

*Deeeeeeeeeep breath.....*
Hi everyone, and firstly congratulations and muchos kudos to you all for taking the plunge...I'm about to join you.
I'm new here, only posted for the first time a few days ago having had my ''lightbulb moment'' which actually came from realising how much I spend on smoking. So it makes sense to post here, seeing as the figure made me feel so sick I realised I had to do something.
*More deep breaths*...ok, here it is....I currently spend within the region of £150-£200 a month on smoking. As a single mother on benefits, I'm burning up money I don't actually have. I smoke anything, preferably ciggies but I do switch to tobacco often to, ahem, ''save money''. It doesn't work.
I've been ready to actually give up for a while now - I hate it. I used to love having a smoke, now it's nothing more than a hinderance. I managed to give up cold turkey for both of my pregnancies, but always ended up lighting up again when having a drink...and as most of you will know, when you've been a heavy smoker, it's a downward spiral when you say ''Oh I'll just have one with a drink/after meals etc etc''. It snowballs and before you know it, you're running to the shop each evening to stock up.
So here goes. I have a little bit of tobacco left, and my plan is to simply not buy anymore. I'm gonna make an appointment at the docs, sort myself out with gum or patches for when things get tough, but try to go it alone as I've done so before. I've been using having a rough time lately as an excuse to put it off...but today I figured, ''Why? Giving up now will save tons of money and help my situation...I'm stressed anyway even with smoking, so why continue?''.
I vow to post on here every day, support everyone else going through the same as me and to be totally, utterly honest with you all. I know I can do it this time, and I will. I am going it alone as those around me think ''Ah we've heard this before'' but it's different this time - I mean it.
So, essay done, hello to everyone and keep it up, it's worth it!

Welcome to the thread Eshka and well done on your decision to quit.
We'll be here to support and encourage you through your journey.
If you have a look at the first post on this thread there are lots of link, including one to a 'quit counter'.
Download this and it will tell you how many cigs you've not smoked and how much money you've saved. It really helped to motivate me in those difficult early days.

Thanks guys!
I'll check out the info in a sec. Just had a moment of bravery, I'm gonna have one smoke now, then call me insane but I'm gonna stick the baccy in the bin. I'll only sit here smoking all afternoon otherwise. Best start right now!
Does smoking make anyone else as lazy as me? Putting stuff off in favour of ''Oooooh I'll just have a coffee/tea and wee smoke, THEN I'll wash the dishes/do some laundry/etc etc''......lol!
