The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Welcome Kate, I hope you didn't break and go to the shop for some fags?
There's nothing wrong with giving up for financial reasons, if that's what motivates you then that's what will make you give up!
Hi to everyone else, I've been really busy at work so haven't been able to post much.
I'm still not smoking and I'm continuing with the running training!0 -
morning all..... well done Kate for giving up- keep it up it DOES get easier (she says;) )
well done Boatie and Lurkie for the training- I started last night properly although I did a 3 mile walk on Sunday too. Last night we did the walking- jogging- walking for 3 miles although it was more walking by the end of it ! Doesn't seem to be getting any easier !!
Hope all is well with everyone else :hello:MTC's NO MORE PIES MEMBER NO 202 !!!

It's not easy is it?
Last week I did 1 minute jogging, 1 minute walking for 20 minutes x 3.
Lunchtime today I'm on the next level which is 90 seconds jogging and 2 minutes walking. Will post this afternoon and let you know how I got on - if I've got the strength to type...0 -
Congrats to all ex-smokers here, whether you have quit for hours, or whether you have quit for years! Keep at it!!
For the guys & gals who have just recently quit:
Well done! You have got through the hardest part! Actually deciding that you're going to give up, setting a date, and keeping at it! Once you do that, everything is easier! Trust me on that!
Dealing with cravings:
This really helped me through my first few months, and I hope it helps you too.
Firstly, don't be afraid of cravings. In fact, welcome them, and acknowledge them for what they are. 90% of your cravings are just habitual (like that ciggy you 'have' to have after a meal). As soon as you acknowledge that the craving has nothing to do with nicotine withdrawal, it's no longer a craving, just a psychological 'blip' - As for the times when the nicotine-based cravings hit, they really are fairly mild, and over in a minute or two...Go on! Challenge them to do their worst, and a minute or two later, when the craving passes, just think about how weak and innefective the craving was, and be more resolute that you are not going to have that cigarette. Give the craving the scorn it deserves!! It's mild, it's brief, and it's painless. It's nothing more than a psychological trick! Nothing more!!
Good luck all! :-)0 -
Well I didn't break, I got through day one without smoking and I didn't kill anyone either! :T
So today is day two and I'm feeling awful, my head is banging, I'm snappier than I was yesterday, I'm feeling guilt for being snappy, my eyes are all puffy from crying, I could willingly commit murder today and not care, I just want to smoke!!! Will I make it through? Place bets now!Kate

I'm on week 3 of workout 3 (90 sec jog, 90 sec walk, 3 min jog, 3 min walk - X 2    )
Foolishly decided to start at week 2 last week, as I only have 6 weeks to do a nine week programme.
Strangely, I don't hurt as much as I did last week. I can't possibly be getting fit, can I?
kate - really well done on getting through day 1. 2 more and the nicotine is GONE from your systemThis is the worst of it. It only gets better after today, so accept that and do ANYTHING to distract your mind from thinking about it

after smoking 20+ a day for 20 odd years( i did stop for 18 months on two occasions when i had kids but sneaked back on when kids were about one year old both times) i brought the allen carr book on a saturday and put my last cigarette out on a sunday night in march (i think its three years this march) not sure of date as i cant really remember-dont know how this book works but it does, and you just think of yourself as a non smoker not an ex smoker and hence the dates not important as you dont feel youre counting down or missing anything.Anyway good luck, please buy the book it makes it really easy cos its brill and believe me the first thing i used to do when i woke up,sat down ,had a coffee etc was light up,good luck0
