That's really brilliant advice JoeHel and I'm going to take that on board. Both me and the better half are still off the ciggies since Jan 1st, but previous experience has taught me that it is so very easy to slip back into it (I've quite for 9 and 12 months before now, amongst other shorter efforts).

You're absolutely right I think, that it is easy to forget about why we quit in the first place. Damn right. I am going to hold that thought and I'm sure it will come in handy some day!

    Cheers

I posted some time ago about this website:

    https://secure.quitnet.com/qn_welcome.jtml

just to use the special gadget which you can use to calculate how many cigarettes you haven't smoked and how much you've saved. There is a support 'group' on the site (it's American) but I'm one of those people who can't be faffed with support groups - I reckon that by talking about giving up something (food, cigarettes, whatever) only prolongs the agony of thinking about it. Give up and move on! ;)

    Here's how much I've saved since 14 August 2005. I used to smoke 15 cigs a day:

    trans.gifMoney Saved: £3,412.50

I get occasional emails from the site with the updated calculation of my savings etc and I find it handy to be able to show to others who are struggling with giving up the evil weed.

I wish I could say it's all in the bank, but like most smokers I smoked even though I couldn't afford it. Of course, I would be even worse off now if I did smoke! I don't drink either, so I'm wondering what else I can give up! I am, of course, now quite perfect :A

    :p
    I don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out - why aren't I rich?
    Don't worry, I'm working on it! :p

I need your encouragement - feeling totally fed up today. Saw the consultant and he is 99.9% sure that my thyroid gland is packing up and I will have to go on meds forever.

To be honest still really missing havng a cig - mainly at weekends - but it isn't getting any easier. If nicotine is completely out of your system in 72 hours, why do I still get a gnawing/hunger type pains when I think I could do with a cig, when I haven't smoked for over 6 weeks?

For the first time last night I even dreamt of lighting up - and it was a Silk Cut, which I didn't smoke! I was looking out of a window high up and Charles Kennedy was there on the ground telling me not to do it:eek: I don't know why, considering he still smokes, but I just let it almost burn away on the ashtray and then I picked it up and had a couple of puffs. Frustrating thing is, I can't remember whether or not I enjoyed those puffs.

I am sorry to sound so pathetic, but is it worth it? Please convince me that it is.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

***HUGS*** hunni, hope your feeling better. Ive been feely pretty rough lately, was feeling so good with myself but like you Im getting the cravings still,k oohhh wanted one so bad today, i took my son to the local park for an hour and i just sat reading the paper and how i really wanted a fag. I have done really well, like you and everyone else nbut Im still getting the urge. I am eating like a pig, i wouldnt mind so much if it was healthy stuff but its not as i dont like anything thats healthy:eek: !!! I am stuffing my face with all sorts and I know its the wrong way to go and I know I wanted to put weight on which I have so i now no longer look aneroxic:j as I did before,i actually look more womanly but im now started to fear this binge eating will take over-I do not make myself sick I just eat. I dont even feel full up.

Im also feeeling so tired and weak, not sleeping well and in the daytime im knackered and just want to sleep.

I remember last time I gave up, it felt harder as time went by,my giving up date was 1st jan and some of you know I caved in a few times but since the last time i havent, and ive saved loads but it still dont make it any easier.I feel more down and grumpy and i think to myself if i start again would i be happier or is it all just in my head:confused:

(((hugs))) to both of you. I know it is sometimes difficult. I had my last cigarette on 1st december, and I've been really lucky, I have too much to do to think about smoking much, my OH still smokes but tbh It doesn't really bother me. I think the trick is to replace the urges with something else. Diamond you said you eat more, I eat more but It sounds like you could do to eat more anyway and the weight will balance out. Don't worry that you may end up looking like a fat thing, coz you won't. I was borderline anorexic some 20 ish years ago, and believe me I looked ill. I thought I looked great (of course) but I looked much better when I ate more and got a more womanly shape-much better than being called stick insect!!! Melbury, I know you are struggling too, but when you had that dream didn't it feel a bit good to know that it was just a dream and that you hadn't given up and started smoking again? I know I'm not a patch on JoeHel but I am trying guys, honest. Chins up, we're all behind you.

Awww thank u hun, I know the eating is doing me good as I dont look so ill like I use to. Atleast now my clothes do not hang off me and actually fit me making me look okish my face though looks awful, full of spots:eek: , dark bags under my eyes:eek: and my hair, well worse than a mop:eek: but like you know yourself what we can look like when stick thin. I better go and bath littleman quickly as i want him going sleep early as his not sleeping well, then will have a quick shower and come back on.

    HUGS 2 u all xxxxxxxx

Diamond, I think it's a psychological thing, you would still feel grumpy and down if you did smoke but the difference is that you probably had a smoke when you used to feel grumpy and down, now you don't smoke, you are telling yourself that if you had a cig you wouldn't feel grumpy any more, but you would, little white stick would be calling the shots again. This applies to you too Melbury, You're doing great, we all are-just don't let the white stick win. You have to remember 'you are a strong person, financially you are better off not smoking, healthwise you are better off not smoking, your clothes and hair don't stink like an ashhtray any more and you have so much support.
