Hey Kate, its up to you but if you are not ready to give up you won't. On the other hand you may discovera steely core inside you that will prevent you from lighting up. I didn't think much of alan carr tbh.
If you smoke you will regret it, it does not tatse nice!

Hi everyone - just popped in to catch up with you all. Is everyone being good?

I am STILL reading that Allen Carr book, it feels like I am never going to finish it - like a life sentence! I only manage to read a couple of pages each night and must admit that as I had already given up for a few weeks before I started reading it, don't find it that helpful - very repetitive. Just cannot agree with him about everything, I really did enjoy smoking however smelly and bad it was. It was a very hard decision to give it up - especially after 36 years - but being completely honest it was more of an I should rather than I really want to:eek:

However, here I am nearly seven weeks on and still not smoking. Now it is more like I am definitely not going to give in after managing without them for so long, otherwise all the effort would have been for nothing.

Keep strong everyone - you know it makes sense:beer:
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

  • everyone is doing so well, its so good to be able to lean on each other. My neil casey book finally arrived this afternoon - if 1st class takes a week and a half I'd hate to see 2nd class- but anyway now I'm scared to read it what if I thnk "what a load of rubbish" or it makes me want to smoke. Thats daft I know it won't.
Champix, Kathy is very good but very strange as well. It dramatically increased my appetite from day 1, I was moaningto my sister about it after a week and she read the leaflet and it is the no. 1 side effect! That is reducing a bit now, 5 weeks on. I had real trouble sleeping as well and the most crazy dreams for the first 2- 3 weeks. I took it for 2 weeks before stopping, during that 2 weeks I always wanted to smoke but when I lit up I couldn't finish one. I know exactly were you're coming from, don't worry just take it one step at a time, or even in 4 hour blocks, get to midday without smoking, get to 4pm, 8pm etc without smoking. Grr I want one now!! hth xx

    :rotfl::rotfl: Now that's positivity isn't it?!

I've been to the pub for lunch today and still not smoked!! :T I am dreading the little wobbles though, I will hopefully get through them but I'm feeling weaker as time goes by! I will just take it day by day though (or hour by hour) and if I fail then I can always start again!!

Chuck the fags away, you know your on a slippery slope with the little cancer sticks tucked away in the bag just calling you, none of this <<hugs>> stuff you doing great, this is tough love.

and you went to the pub for lunch, bring back memories did it?, now how stupid are you?, you're just gagging to join the quit quitting brigade, i've reserved a space for you.

Thanks Bas, what a nice thought.
I'm full of cold today, so not feeling too great and will have to cancel my lunchtime run.
But on the bright side, if I was still a smoker it would have turned into a nasty cough by now and it hasn't.

Good vibes to all the people at the start of their non smoking journey - you can do it!!

You can't say well done to someone whos gone out and bought some fags and stuffed them in their bag, then made the cardinal sin of going down the pub. Thats not positive, its just silly.

I can say well done to anyone I like- particularly someone who has bought some and NOT smoked them !!! That makes perfect sense to me. I don't see how its a mistake of going to the pub either,....

I'm beginning to think anyone whos had a quick drag of a fag 10 years ago is turning up on the give up smoking thread just for a bit of browny points scoring.

Its like 'i've quit, feel fab, hugs, thats me sorted, you've brought a packet of fags and just looking at them, great idea'.
