Evening all,
It's marvellous to see how well everyone is doing - you have no idea just how much remembering all of you kept me on the straight and narrow - huge thanks.
To anyone who has had a 'sly' one - I can only tell you what my lovely GP said last week as she signed the prescription for the patches. She said that if ever you 'fall' please don't think of it as such, just that you were very stressed and needed one at that particular moment. She advised that I didn't buy any, just borrowed - said that the thought of asking usually stopped most people.
I've pondered that for quite some time, I'm a teacher and have a ready made supply of 'free' ones - by the 'burning bush' at the end of the school field! Now, just how sad would I have to be to trail over the field to the year 10 desperados and try to catch them, just so I can pinch their cigs - never the ones I used to smoke - do you think they would change just in case I get desperate?
Thak you for all your inspiration everyone.
TillyThanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0 -
Interesting thought Tilly, I work in secondary school too and the thought of asking the "lovely" year 10's for a "drag" would convince me never to smoke again - although chances are the kids would think "miss" was rather cool. How do we rid smoking of its "cool" criteria with kids, now there's a thought to ponder on a wet miserable Monday evening! Well done to all, even those "thinking" about quitting cause you're halfway there!!
love and luck
IDA

Only had one this morning so I think that's def a good day but must do better tomorrow!!
I even turned down a free one at work when usually I would have gone out and had at least one if not two.
I def think reading other peoples battles on here is helping tho and not making me give up giving up so easily!!

Hi. Have been following this thread from behind my hands so to speak. At the moment I'm reading the AC Easy Way book and was wondering .. is it better to read it all in one go or take your time... I started reading it roughly 3- 4 days ago and am now up to chapter 8 (of 43!!). Would be interesting to hear other peeps points of view...0

Hello all, Jo thatwas just a little tiny blip hardly worth a mention. It is all down to the rotten rain and a full moon !!
I have done a whole week now not smoking. Hooray.
I think it was IDA that said she had a pink tongue, I have one as well now. What else have we to look forward to glossy hair sparkling eyes?
We will all feel better when we have some sunshine.
Take care,

Morning all,
Tilly, you made me laugh about the year 10's, my eldest dd is in year 10
I'm so proud of how everyone's doing, I felt down yesterday but am back on the non-smokingwagon today!
I put my patch on last night to help with cravings this morning, which seems to have worked.
I'll speak to you all when I get to work!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
can I join Jo and Jet in the naughty corner
you may have noticed that I havent visited this thread in a while as I was too embarassed because I started smoking again. I am off to see the Doctor this morning to see if I can try a different method of quitting as I keep failing on the patches ( not the patches fault - all my own fault )
Well done to everybody else - this thread is a great help.
Will update later:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Morning all
oops a daisy there are no "naughty corners" in our "round" room .....:rotfl:! We are in it together and will win it together .... omg I hope that doesn't sound too twee and patronising ... don't mean it to, its supposed to sound motivating and inspirational!!

I read th AC book over a week, but when I started it I'd already set my quit date for the following Monday so I stuck to quitting that day even though AC advises not to, anyway it worked for me and I still finished the book! I'm going to buy the Neil Cassey one to keep me motivated have heard good things about it!
Would like to say (omg this is turning into an epic) that its getting easier and in someways it is and in someways its more difficult. Perhaps like many ex-smokers I'm waiting for that bolt of lightening that says "yeah you've done it" but now have to admit it ain't gonna happen  just have to accept that there will be no fanfare or grand finale I will just have to ease myself into this quitting malarkey and stick with it!!
Hope everyone else is doing okay.
Love luck and hugs to all

Excellent and very wise advice :T keep this in your head and you will reduce the risk of becoming complacent, which is my biggest fault with most things in life.
Well I got to work uneventfully, didn't actually crave a fag which is great, in fact I don't think I actually thought of them much - those patches must be doing the trick! Was dissappointed when I went to Tesco last night as they have a BOGOF on Niquitin patches (in fact all their NRT) but they didn't have the strength I wanted in stock, so I'm going back there tonight and hopefully they'll have got a delivery, luckily I still have a couple left to keep me going.
I've also decided to completely quit drinking for a while, the reason I slip every time is because I have a couple of drinks and think s** it, I'll just have one fag. Then once that seed has been planted there is no way no how that I will not have one. So not drinking means a clear head and no smoke thoughts!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Hi all! Congrats to all who are hanging in there!
I've been smoke-free for about 36hrs now and so far , so good (I used to smoke around 15 a day, for the last 15yrs....just the thought of that is frightening and depressing!)....haven't yet felt any overwhelming craving for a ciggie. I'm using Nicotinell 2mg fruit gums to take the edge of those cravings, and i've found it really helpful. After the first night's sleep, i had a banging headache and a pain behind the eyes for a while until i had my first gum. I'm planning to take up jogging to take my mind off the ciggies and to change my regular patterns of behaviour....but the bloody weather has been so awful over the last few evenings! Hoping that it won't be bucketing down when i finish work tonight so that i can start the jogging...
I've saved about £8 so far!
Good luck all, will keep you posted...'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it....for much longer!'0
