Ok, so i bowed to public pressure, got beyond the 'How dare they infringe my liberties in such a fashion!', went to the GP and got the patches. I stubbed out the last of my dear friends at 11.45pm last night. I'd even managed to convince myself that the need to give up outweighted the not very dfw act of crushing up the last of my 'friends' into the bin - ignoring their loud screams of agony of course!! Now, what I want to know is when does the urge to rip peple's head's off and chew the wallpaper off the walls subside? Thanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0

Haven't read thread but I was a 30 or more smoker just over 4 years ago. Our first grandson was due so DD said - you smoke, no sleep over. I totally agreed. Gave up two days after he was born - very very difficult as he was 3 weeks early and my plan went out the window! I did the chewing gum. Have had a couple of wee wrinkles over the last 4 years - smoked 2. Smoking ban in Scotland and when I go to Ireland to visit son does help. If you can't smoke in pub or restaurant it is certainly easier.
Anyway good luck to all quitters. I must admit I do prefer my grandsons are not subjected to smoke if in restaurants or at a wedding yesterday.
Best wishes

Well done to everyone for the last 24 hours.:T Especially to TillyTrippit for drinking all night and not having one - respect!
I stayed in this weekend. Anyone got a good stories from today as the smoking ban kicked in at 6am today, I believe? Shame it wasn't chucking it down where I lived so they could all get soaked outside.

What really gets me is that everyone who reads Allen Carr's easyway quits (it appears) and I can find very little evidence to find people who don't quit who:
1. Take the book seriously
2. READ the advice
3. FOLLOW instructions
This may sound bizarre, but I feel like announcing to the world.......
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was a smoker. I'm only in my mid 30s and I've been smoking 20 a day for 20 years (I was smoking before that, but obviously, couldn't afford 20 a day).
I was undecided whether or not to quit. I did (and still do) think it's a bit much to tell people what they can and can't do, but that's society for you.
So, I decided to read the book (a friend bought it me a few months ago, I'd just not bothered to read it).
By the end? Quit. I KNOW I'm not going to smoke again. How weird does that sound? how many people say that they might or might not smoke again? NOT ONLY THAT, I don't even fancy a cigarette. I REALLY REALLY DON'T!!! Those of you who've used willpower alone or patches etc, how many of you can honestly say you don't fancy one?
My father quit 25 years ago, but he said he still fancies a cigarette every day!
Anyway, I'm not on commission, I just do NOT understand why a) this book isn't mentioned on just about every thread and forum about smoking and b) why there are a lot of people who are sceptical
Finally....... just to add something..... another friend of mine isn't a big reader - it's not that she can't, she just doesn't have the patience for a book like this - she bought the DVD and she said it had just as great an effect on her.
And there's me ranting on..... normally, I just read the threads and shut-up!
YIPPEE! I'M A NON SMOKER!!!!

Oh Jet - not easy I've done what you did so many times! The advice is "never give up giving up" - keep trying and it will happen.
Yey I've done a whole week I can't believe it - never thought I would do it, longest time without any nictotine replacement for 17 years!!! But s*** why do I not feel better .... grrr ..... thought I would feel happy and breezy and so much healthier and can't say that I feel any different. Perhaps its too soon for me or maybe I just haven't noticed the improvement ... what the heck I'm still a quitter .... YEAH!!!!
Good luck all - stay strong

I feel terrible, I caved in. I wanted to come on here today and 'not mention it' but not only am I lying to you but to myself. I feel awful.
I've even smoked today so in my eyes today can't even be day 1
Sorry to be on such a downer but I was doing so well.
I am determined to start again tomorrow, I'm gonna stock up with more patches and start again. In fact I'm off to see if I can find that Neil Casey book cos I've not read that, if not I'll get Allen Carrs' one, although I've read it before.

Jo, keep trying [:D]
Think of the "little monster". It's controlling the "Big Monster"
Have you read the "Only Way"? Having read reviews, most people who (were initially successful with easyway) have moved on with this one......The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Just checked and I've run out of patches....where is the best offer for patches this week? I know that Superdrug and Tesco are both doing offers but not sure which I should go to. Trying to buy the Neil Casey and Allen Carr books in a DFW way but it's not happening, AC books seem to go for practically the same as new on ebay cos of postage.
Although WHSmiths are doing a 3 for 2 on ALL books at the mo, so might buy both and treat myself to summat else while I'm there, not very DFW thou :rotfl:
