Hi all, well done to all of you who are still not smoking. I've got an appt for Thurs @ 1.30pm at the clinic, soooo, provided I can get whatever they decide to give me straight away, my quit date is Thursday! and I can't wait!! I'm really looking forward to it (wonder if I'll still feel the same on Friday!!)

Hi, yes I've given up twice doing cold turkey and it was hell. I wanted to kill someone!! Then about 5-6 years ago we gave up for two years using the gum but initially I got the most terrible mouth ulcers so I don't want to go down that road again!! I also put on 2st which I really don't want to do again. any advice on that would be very much appreciated?

Hi well 21 hrs 17m in (the silkquit thingy is ace)! Mood swings but think I I'd have them anyway lol. Eating (picking) loads, must get a grip on that. However went shopping and passed the cig counter without a backward glance and was well chuffed about that! DH being a pain though, doubly tough when two give up together but if he gets through today will be a first in years!!! Can't bear the "something missing" feeling, comes on in waves, sometimes more regular than others and sometimes without warning! This is just day one omg day 2 will be worse - oh well knuckle down and on - it has to be now!!
Good luck all.

Only wanted to post the following as support and to say that if I can do it, then so can you. My SilkQuit meter tells me that;
It is 8 months, 4 weeks and 2 days since I gave up...
I have not smoked 8168 cigarettes and...
I have saved approximately £2042.
Keep up the good work girls and boys.I'm the only gay in this forum

I know exactly what you mean. I gave up on 20 March but I went to Norwich to see my best mates at the weekend. She hardly ever smokes, just has the odd roll up, so yes, I tried one.....But you know what? I'm glad I did. I felt I needed to have one, because I had gone cold turkey and it was so sudden. After that roll up, I realised it was, indeed, just that feeling of thinking you are missing out on something. It didn't make me want another one and I haven't thought about it since so onwards and upwards. :j
Well done everyone, keep up the good work.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Hello all, yes Jo Champix seems to be working for me. I think everyone has to find their own way of dealing with this.
Well today I have not smoked at all. Hooray. I have not found it hard so far but I know there is a long way to go.
The thing that is really not helping is those dratted no smoking in public places adverts, just a constant reminder of cigs.
After we had taken our dog for a 2 hour walk - in the pouring rain - we went to Lidl's and I stocked up on lots of fruit to try and keep off chocolate.
To the people going cold turkey, I wish you the very best of luck, you are so brave.
Take care all,

Well here we are day 2 - 1 day 11 hours 26mins, 29 cigarettes not smoked and £6.27 saved!!
Well can't say it's easy but its bearable, find I'm breathing through the "cravings" my worst thing is my DH, he so wants to stop (particularly 'cause of his heart condition!) but is soooo moody!! I have to keep reminding him that trying again was HIS idea and that I'M suffering too!! Then I feel guilty!! Anyway am determined to do it, though in all honesty if someone offered me a cigarette now would I be able to refuse .... hmmm .... hope so but its not happening so it doesn't matter!!! Just like Allen says its just my brain trying to trick me!! I will continue to refuse to feed my "nicotine monster" and starve it to death.
Take care all.
love n hugs

till my quit date. Well done Ida for getting to day 2!! and well done to your oh for giving it a go too. I'm hoping I'll be given whatever I'm going to be using at my appt on Thursday so I can get started straight away. OH's appt isn't till next Thursday so we'll see how that's gonna work (or not) with him still smoking while I'm not!!

Good luck Annybanny!
1 Day 16 hours and 4 mins, 33 cigarettes not smoked, £7.10 saved and 2 hours 45 minutes added to my life!!
My biggest problem is that "something missing" feeling that comes and goes in waves (sometimes tidal othertimes just a gentle lapping). I genuinely don't want to have a cigarette (which is odd) but I feel I want "something"!! I know that for me there can be no "just one" it really is all or nothing this time.
Was speaking to a fellow ex-smoker today, she gave up 12 months ago and she recommended that my DH try the gum as she found that helped her more than the patches. Think that may be worth a try as he's still going but its a real struggle for him and he's ssooooo grumpy (lol) - I just know he's waiting for the "craving" to go away and its still only day 2!!! He's seeing the nurse tomorrow so I'll get him to have a chat with her.
Good luck all.
