The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Well, I am coming on here to confess....I gave up for a week and then it all got just too much and this last few days I have crept up from 1 cig a day to 3 up to now today. I HATE myself....I really want to do this!! I was so pleased with myself too and all the money I was saving...what is up with me???
Anyway, I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the practice nurse at the doctors surgery. The trouble is I don't know what to ask for. I have tried the patches and they work up to a point...what are the tablets like? Do they work...I don't know whether to ask for them or not. What other alternatives are there. I really want to go in clued up tomorrow. I have Allen Carr but haven't started reading it yet...will do that tonight...every little helps I guess

Hi Kathy,
Sorry to be short and sweet but I gotta catch the post office before it shuts in 10 minutes!!
We have all been there so don't be too hard on yourself. Set a date and try again, it will work eventually. Speak to your clinic about other options.
Let us know how it went.
Take care, really gotta go now!!!

Hi Kathy
I've been smoke free for 46 days now. I was smoking 40 + per day and have saved £460 so far. I managed to quit using Zyban and have to say that I've found it a lot easier than I expected. I've had no withdrawal symptoms to speak of and an added bonus of losing 1 stone too.
Good luck, with whichever method you decide to use and feel free to PM me if needed.

Ann
yes you can AnnyBananny ( brill name ) and also some areas only prescribe certain brands but I am allergic to the ones on my area ( Niquitin ) so they prescribe the ones that I am alright with ( nicotinell )
Basically if it is available on drug tariff ( thats the list of all products that can be prescried by a prescriber ) you shouldnt have a problem. I use patches and a inhalator, I was prescribed the micro tablets last time I quit but they gave me ulcers too so I dont use them. You can also get a nasal spray ( but be careful with that one as a certain person on here has got addicted to that now)
Welcome to our small but ever expanding little club :T
if you google silkquit you should be able to find it. It is free to download but they do ask for an optional donation.
All the best and good luck
Welcome to in debt again and dealing with it
Hi Kathy :hello: thats how you get back onto the slippery slope of smoking again( been there and done it so many times ) well done on getting yourself off to the quit clinic so soon. I have listed above the stuff that I get but it really is down to the individual and hopefully the practice nurse will be able to suggest what will be best for you based on your habit. Keep coming on here and let us know how you get on. I have found the support on this thread brilliant and got me back on track again as soon as I had a slip up.

right I really do need to get a life
I have gone through the thread and listed all of the recommended sites mentioned by various posters below - can not find the link to the alternative to silkquit that doesnt have to be down loaded. Perhaps Jo could cut and paste this post to her first post so that newbies can get all of the information that they need all in one place ???

jo...I am going to start again...hopefully tomorrow when I have been to the clinic. Thanks for taking the time to write even though you are rushing...hope you made the Post Office!
sparky....WOW...you have done so well. Is Zyban that good? I must admit the thought of putting on weight is even more scary to me than giving up smoking. I have been overweight for years and have now finally got to a weight I am happy with. I am no Kate Moss but happy with where I am at. If I put weight on again I will cry!! BTW..you might be sorry you asked me to PM you....just kidding! But I might take you up on it.
opps a daisy...I intend to be a regular on here from now on...the support is fantastic....I am trusting you all to keep me on the straight and narrow!0 -
dont worry we will keep you on the straight and narrow Kathy - you really dont want to mess with us as we have just packed in smoking   :rotfl::cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0

Hi quitters!! (in a good sense)
I went for a drink after work last night, and thought it would be OK if I had one, how wrong was I - I ended up smoking 10!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??
Anyway I am looking on the bright side, because this morning my mouth feels disgusting, and I am determined that this is the turning point for me as i definitely do not want one now!!!
But this thread is keeping me going with all the support so don't be too hard on me.Official DFW Nerd Club - member no: 538

Costa, we are not going to be hard on you cos at the end of the day it's you you've done it to. Don't beat yourself up, it's happened to all of us at some point. Thankfully you feel so guilty this morning and your mouth tastes horrible and so that will give you strength today. You'll be fineStick with it!
Sparky, welcome to the thread  and well done on your 46 days!
I've noticed over the past week or so since the weather has been nice and we've had the windows open at work how many people walk past smoking. I never used to notice it before but now I don't smoke I notice the disgusting smell that wafts in when they walk past!!
