thanks for the tips tng & richyrich. I actually do have the Allan Carr Easyway for Women book however have not actually read it. So I procrastinated over actually stopping smoking and now I am procrastinating over reading a book - definately mind over matter :p but I do agree with you both about no time being a good time or bad time to pack in smoking. I lost my job and packed in smoking and found it easier because my routines all totally changed overnight.
Dont worry Sea - when you decide to try again we will be here for you. I fell off the wagon last week but got back on again within a few days so that all of my hard work was not lost in another failed attempt.
Well if I was ever going to reach or a cigarette under stress it would have been yesterday. Lunatic woman decided that I was is her way at the supermarket and had a go at me. I was so upset but I stood up for myself anyway my immediate thought was that I needed a cigarette so I bought chocolate instead and tried to put it to the back of my mind.
How is everybody else doing this weekend ?????
Hope you are all having a good one - all the best - OOPS

Oops a daisy: what I do in that situation is this - I think, "If I had a cigarette right now, what would it do for me?"

Would it make me any less angry? No
Would it have stopped the stupid old woman bumping into me? No
Would it make me any less upset? No

Just say that to yourself, I don't know if it will work for you but it does for me. In fact if anything if you had a cig it would probably have made you more angry and more upset because you'd feel as if you had let yourself down.

Can't comment on Allen Carr for Women (I haven't read it and even if I did I probably wouldn't understand it!) but give it a read - it might make some of those cravings that you get in certain situations mysteriously disappear. Like when silly bints aim at you with shopping trolleys :p

    Keep up the good work

What is it like being in a relationship with a smoker? I really feel sorry for what my better half had to put up with when I smoked...

She has banished herself to the garden to smoke, but man you can tell when she's had one :o Have to tread a bit careful, cos I don't want to preach (like I do on here ;) ) and don't want to tell her that she stinks of fags (she knows - she doesn't need me to tell her).

I dread to think what our poor kids went through, with us kissing them goodnight etc

    Stay strong all

    confession time again :o

an ex of mine used to say it was like kissing an ashtray - poor guy had never smoked and I smoked 20 a day  I realise now how bad it is but at the time it was like water off a ducks back. I even used to smoke at work and I sat next to a woman who had asthma - again was oblivious to it. I have been such a horrible person - hopefully getting better now and smelling better too :D

TNG - Well done packing in with another smoker in the house - definately dont think I would have that much will power :o

What is wrong with me, I have been so good in the week, as soon as the weekend comes I think it is OK to have a ciggie.
The Patch is back on and I am determined t do it now, especially as we have now booked our wedding and a) I need to save and b) I do not want to be a smoking bride!

I've been doing lots of deep breathing and when the teenagers get too much for me:eek: take myself off to my bedroom for 5 mins :rotfl:

    How is everyone doing? :j

Well last ciggie was 20 March. I was a smoker the past 15 years. Some days are fine, others are harder. Being abroad the past 2 weeks was a massive test, especially when some girl smoked like a chimney and kept trying to get me to start again, saying I could give up again when I got back. Cheers for that.

But I know that if I have one, I will start again, so I just talk myself through it. As said previously, there is NO ideal time to quit, EVER! There will always be something stressing you out, you just have to get through the couple of mins when you really feel like one, it does pass. Cannot WAIT for 1 July, will be so much easier for me to go into a pub and just out and about generally. I need all the help I can get. :D

Oh my, it's gonna take a while to reply to everyone here!

FBS, sorry but gotta laugh at your addiction to the spray :rotfl:, don't take it in a bad way it's just that you are so much like me, I'll latch on to anything - I wish fresh fruit smoothies were addictive! Good luck with the patch/inhalator - keep us updated on here and get some support too.

Dragon, aren't you good saving your non smoking money! Enjoy spending it!

Oops, well done for jumping straight back on the wagon! Forget the slip up and learn from it :T

ILA, good luck with the Champix - keep us updated of how you're finding it.

Rich, I shall have a look out for the Neil Casey book this arvo whilst I'm supposed to be working  - thanks for the tip, stick around and share your wisdom :rotfl:

    TNG, how you doing?

Sea, when you get a craving, take a deep breath and remember why you've given up. I find that helps me a lot. Then I think of the money I'm saving!! Good luck Sea, you will get there.

Andy, thanks for the support :)

Costa, jump back on that wagon girl! Don't worry about the slip up, you are strong! Good luck.

Jenchin, well done on doing the race for life :j not smoking is going to have such a huge impact on your life as you are obviously fit. Me, I just run 20 yards for the bus and I'm wiped out for the day :D

Lou, you are doing so well keep it up!! I love your 'smell my breath' bit of your signature :rotfl:

Right, I'm off to find this Neil Casey book and then I'd better do some work cos I've spent the whole morning trying to get my head arount Matched Betting, which is very frustrating and not doing much good for my cravings

    Hope you're all well?

  • Hiya everyone, I started my Champix today, the possible side effects are feeling sick and feeling dizzy was lucky enough to have both of those and have been irritable too. The feeling sick will hopefully help me to keep my weight down and feeling dizzy I would expect to have when you give up smoking. Irritable? - just an off day. You don't stop smoking straight away using this method. You get 2 lots of tablets for weeks 1 & 2 by day 8 you should be feeling ready to stop. It triggers something in your brain, tells you you do not want to smoke.
My no smoking nurse measured my carbon monoxide level when I went to see her to get the script. It was 21, it can be 1/2 ish if you have been walking near traffic. Anyone else had their carbon monoxide measured? It may help if you do, give you another reason to help you stop smoking.
    Good luck everyone.
