I will be stopping at bedtime tonight.

I gave up at New Year, and managed 5 months..then in one moment of weakness, was back worse than ever. Smoke 20 a day for approx 20 years ( apart from those 5 months).
    I don't know much, but I know I love you ....<3

    Hi,

Sorry not been around, my laptop has now officially been pronounced dead :( I think a virus has eaten my hard drive, so can only get on here at work at the moment, well until I find £150 to fix the PC.

How is everyone doing? I'm doing ok, breathing easier I've noticed. I have a 10 minute fast walk at either end of the station going to work and I've noticed that it's a lot easier now and I don't get so out of breath.

I even managed to go out with the girls on Friday who all smoke and not even think about it, I just danced the night away  :j

So how we all doing??...Dragon, Ani, Coolmum, Oops, I've missed a few names there so excuse me, just seen my boss pull up in the car park so can't scroll back too far!

Jinty, welcome :D and good luck, keep us updated on your progress!

Have a good and smoke free day :D

Hi all you (recent) non smokers

Can I use my first post to join in? Just found this thread and I'm on day 35 fag free - just about a day for every year that I've smoked!! Still need encouragement not to fall off the wagon.

I've tried before so many times, previous best a month, but this time it's got to be for keeps. Been taking Champix, it's been available in Scotland for a few months - happy to share what I think of it if anyone is interested.

Of course in Scotland we've had the ban on smoking in public places for well over a year now and I honestly think that has been a big incentive as it made it really hard for me to fit a fag break into a working day!

Hope you are all doing well

  • Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet as it a massive thread. All you need to do to quit smoking is buy a books called "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allan Carr.

    Link to the Book

I went through the book in about 3 days and I have now quit for 7 months without any problems.

    Hope this helps someone

    Morning all,

Amymac, welcome to the thread and to MSE! Well done on your 35 days, 36 now :D share your tips!!

Matt, I did read the book years ago on a previous attempt to give up, it is very good and I would also recommend it to anyone that's not read it. Always wanted to go to one of his seminars and meet the guy, very sad that he passed on :( Stick around anyway Matt and share your tips with us!

    Don'tskipit, how's it going?

Well doing ok, it's getting harder now we've got the nice weather coming on cos I go out for a walk along the Thames at lunchtime and I always used to do that smoking! Where the weather was so bad I'd stay in the non-smoking office! But generally things are getting easier although the complacency starts to creep in now and I get quite shocked when I get a bad craving...got to keep on my toes!

    How's everyone else doing?

  • 18 weeks later and 6lbs heavier, but I'm still an ex-smoker!! :-)

Who's looking forward to the ban next month then? Will the removal of temptation help all you wannabe-quitters or will it just make smoking more forbidden and therefore 'desirable'?

If there's one thing I hope, is that pubs actually stop selling cigs via vending machines, but I bet they don't because that what our lovely Inland Revenue wants :-(

As a ex smoker now for 7 months I welcome the smoking ban on 1st July

I hate going into a pub now and there smoke everywhere. I never thought I would be saying this. All thanks to the best book on earth. And thanks to the author R.I.P Allan Carr and thankyou.

MattSaunders. Completely agree mate. I gave up 7 months ago tomorrow, 20 a day for nearly 20 years. Went to a pub with my wife for lunch last week and realised just how horrible the smoke is. Sorry to all you non-smokers for my defiant ways smoking in the past. You were correct, it is horrible.

I can't even bear to sit next to my Mum now. She's a heavy 40 a dayer. If you really want to do it you will.

I find what helps is every time I get a craving (yes, I still get cravings, though only small ones), I think 'Rubbish to that. I'm not going to let those stupid white cancer sticks hanging from my mouth rule me!' and then telling myself that I am in charge and balls to them.
