Love comes when you stop looking for it :)

I don't think the online sites are completely useless as you can meet people, go out, have fun, etc. but the chances of meeting a true partner via these sites are slim to none.

My friend is desperate to meet a man and I think that desperation oozes from her every pore, she goes out with my sister who couldn't care less about being single and embraces her life without feeling she is missing something not having a man, the difference betwen the two is startling. If friend has a night out and no man is involved in it, then it's been a crap night out!

if you think being 40+ and single is difficult when you are female, spare a thought for this 50+ single male :o

That's my biggest worry! I've been happily single for a couple of years and filled up my free time with activities in the hope I might meet someone that way. I haven't yet although my new friends seem to. I'm convinced it's my age and I'm now edging closer to the next decade!
I only returned to dating sites because my son's girlfriend actually signed me up to one because she said I was too nice to be single!
I used them years ago in between two realtionships but never met anyone I actually dated so I was dubious to go back down this route.
Quite rightly so. no success and now I hardly check them, only if I get a message, from a 'weirdo' of course.
Going by the comment above about the 'strange' women too, I don't have much faith in them.

I'm not desperate and right now I'm too busy for a relationship but I hope I'll meet someone one day...

And I wish you all the same.

I reckon the ratio between men and women is too inbalanced, the men seem to have a lot more to choose from and let's face it, they are greedy !!!!!!s! Plus, the females beat them hands down the looks department.

My 3rd single awareness day today, after a long marriage.
You must be joking about the m/f ration on sites , often 20 males per female.

I've never seen an accurate figures, but most reports say fellas far out number women on all these sites.
That's why us poor men have a bad time, the women are like kids in a sweet shop.

Someone earlier said that love comes along when you stop looking for it, that is bollox :p
I stopped looking a long time ago :o

I have tried to meet women but it seems that I just can't get near enough to impress them with my wit & sense of humour, I guess that I am just too ugly for them to take that chance that I might just be a nice guy.

The only tip that I can give you in your quest to 'find' someone is to try to smile and speak to strange men, I know it goes against what your mother told you but from my own experience it is a great ice-breaker when a woman of any age even just says 'hello' back :)

Ok, hands up, I'm wrong, my friend gave me the impression the men on these sites were spoilt for choice, sorry guys...lol

And half of them are married or already in a relationship looking for 'a bit of fun!'.
Funnily enough I've just reconnected with an old friend from my earlier online dating days and I must tell you a funny story!
We both did the same job and our paths used to cross regularly so became friend. We look alike and were both single so started sharing dating stories. We were on the same site and one day discovered the same guy was messaging both of us. We hatched a plan to arrange dates with him at the same time and see what happened...
Well, he tried to wriggle out of one date or the other but we both kept insisting it was the only available time so he arranged us back to back! Cheek!
You can guess that neither of us made it and then we both texted him at the same time to say we knew each other and knew what he was up to!

We never heard from him again!:T
