  • Supermum thanks for starting this thread.... I am 29, no children, no valentine... love to meet someone but happily not deperately...not so sure I will find him in the Zumba class :) hehehe

Thanks for the 'thanks'! I did really mean the thread to be light-hearted and just chat to anyone else feeling lonely on valentines day. It has cheered me up to discover there are many of us who feel this way.

I don't think there is a solution but it seems a good idea if us singletons just make an effort and after 'kissing a few toads' we will find the 'right one'.

P.S. I went to a Zumba class...no men but it nearly killed me! lol

Maybe there should be a 'moneysavingexpert dating' site?
Then we'll all immediately have something in common!

I think you are absolutely right here. If I ever became involved with anyone again they would have to share a common frugality and also strive to be as environmentally-friendly as is practical.

My previous partner thought I was eccentric as economising went from necessity to a hobby and a challenge. His idea of shopping was to throw everything you fancy into a trolley in M & S or Tesco and then pay on a debit card without even registering what the cost was.

I think I will have to join a horticultural group locally as it's the only way I can think of to reach a grow-some-of-your-own enthusiast.

You made me smile! I used to drive my exboyfriend crazy with my recycling and budgeting! This was before kerb collections and there were piles of papers, boxes of bottles and a trip to the dump once a month. In the supermarket I would spend ages working out the best offers but he would think nothing of walking into a designer outlet and picking up the first thing he liked and buying it regardless of price. It became a way of life for me because of the tight budget I lived on and now I'm studying environmental sciences for a degree.

I think I need to get you together with my ex. His idea of food shopping took about 6 hours of comparing every penny and food mile while I tore my hair out and sobbed in the coffee aisle!
  • We are either in it or not! I know my children think I am very eccentric because I don't spend my income. Who on earth would pay their phone bills then? They are 28 and 22 respectively!

    Hello OP,

Just wanted to say that Valentine's day is cringe-worthy for the non-single too, so I share your dislike of the day.

I've never bought into it; feels so fake and manufactured, but the pressure is heaped on by big business and smug, self-righteous couples alike. I lost count of the number of nauseating facebook updates I saw about being 'the luckiest girl in the world', 'my special man' blah blah blah. Ugh! Puke-fest!

Yeah, you're right, OH mustn't really love me as he hasn't wasted his money on some over-priced, tacky, pink-coloured !!!!! Fortunately, I live in a country where it's not rammed down your throat and even more fortunately, OH isn't interested in it either. So, take no bl00dy notice! (I know it's easier said than done)!

Onto the quest for Mr. Right. I like your idea about going away once a month. Even better, if your'e able to, why not try a proper holiday alone somewhere? The independent travel companies (Exodus, Explore) often have single travellers on their trips and even have group trips for single (as in travelling alone) travellers. And if you even if you don't meet someone, you'll still have had a lovely holiday. Just an idea.

    J'aimerais vous souhaiter bonne chance!
