Flight delay compensation, all other EU airlines

The rules apply to flights originating or terminating in the EU. So if the OP was flying from the UK to Turkey then a delay in either direction is covered (in theory, although practice may be a bit trickier).
The rules only apply to flights terminating in the EU if it is an EU airline
see point#1

As Turkey is not EU only the outbound flight would be covered for compensation0 -

Clearly I hadn't realised that, thanks for the link. Luckily it's never happened to me with any airline, regardless of direction.0 -
Hi,
Just returned from Gatwick after being unable to fly with TAP Air Portugal due to an overbooked flight, I was told the reason for the overbooking was that the pilots had a strike last week and customers were being put on flights to clear the backlog, don't know how that's my problem and why I should have my seat removed since I had booked and paid over 6 months ago!!
So I'm now flying tomorrow from Heathrow ??!!?? with TAP but with an added stop over which will add another 3 hours to my journey time and I will supposedly arrive at my destination a modest 36 hours later than I should have in the first place if they hadn't removed my initial seat....
They've offered me some measly compensation but were very murky in regards to out-of-pocket expenses incurred due to the change.
I had booked a return Gatwick express ticket in advance online which I was to use for my return leg but instead I had to use to come back home today, so that's gone....I now have to buy a train ticket to Heathrow for tomorrow and a single train ticket for my return flight which is still at Gatwick, I also had to call my car hire company to re-schedule my car rental but they told me they can't hold the car for me for 24hours+ and I would have to make a new booking which I was forced to do...had to pay the difference for the change as even though the rental will be for a shorter time the premium increased due to the late notice.
so my questions are:
1- can I claim re-reimbursement for the extra train tickets (the single to Heathrow tomorrow and the more expensive necessary Gatwick return ticket used up today which should have been used for my return date)?
2- can I claim re-reimbursement for the extra cost incurred due to the car hire re-schedule?
3- or is the petty compensation TAP offered me all I can expect to receive?
To make things worse, there was only one seat available for tomorrow so my partner is flying the day after me, which will be 48 hours from the original departure :mad::mad:
Can you please advise what are my options or things that I haven't considered in terms of compensation? I don't want to be abusive but I feel really let down and it seems TAP don't have any regard for the stress this causes to people.
Thanks in advance,
Joe0 -

Both of you are entitled to cancellation amounts as determined by 261/2004 and the level of compensation depends upon the destination distance. Consequential losses are not covered although given the circumstances I would have thought TAP should have 'added a little extra'. You can also claim on your insurance if you have delay cover.... this normally activates a small amount over a 12 hour+ delay and also read through your insurance to see if your extra costs are also covered.0 -
Al your answers are in the FAQ - read through.
You should be due compensation under reg 261/2004 as you were denied boarding. This is very difficult for airline to wriggle out of.
If you have been flown to a different airport to the one booked, then TAP are responsible for your onward transport costs to the crrect airport.
Consequential losses are not covered, but with that sort of delay your travel insurance should cover some aspects? If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

What have TAP offered you? you were denied boarding and as such you are entitled to EU Compensation. This will be either €250, €400 or €600 depending on your final destination distance0 -
My flight from Lisbon to London was cancelled in June (after waiting at the aiport for 6 hours due to crew shortages).
I wrote to TAP in London and Lisbon and emailed them with all supporting evidence (boarding pass, booking confirmation).
I used Martin's template with all my deatails.
I have even messaged them through Facebook.
But I have heard nothing back -it has been almost 3 months now.
I'm claiming 1200 euros in total so not an insignificant amount.
Any ideas what to do next?
