I just spoke to Orange Upgrades they wanted £250 for the N95 so I asked for retentions.
Woman in Retentions asked why I was leaving etc etc.
She Offered:
600 cross network minutes
Unlimited Texts
3 magic numbers
N95 for free
Which is essentially the Dolphin 35 contract (18 month) from the website.
I said to her, oh i see you get £100 credit for signing up to an 18 month contract via the website can I get that aswell?
Orange Answer- No. Im already giving you £250 credit in the form of a free phone.
Hang on aminute, I can sign up to that package via the web, pay £89 for the phone, get the same benefits as retentions offered and essentially be a tenner up in credit on my contract.
Not much of a deal from retentions at all when you think about it. In fact, its pretty rubbish!!
Ive told them I will call them back as I didnt want to commit to that deal and needed to find a new package before i cancelled my contract. She then tried to give me the spiel that if i didnt upgrade today that they might not get anymore N95's in ever again blah de blah. I said i wasnt in a rush and left it at that. They also claimed not to be able to do the N95 on a 12 month contract of any kind which made me laugh.0 -
Had a similiar experience with O2 earlier this year, then when i rang them back to get my PAC code they were more than helpful~agreed to the two phones me and my partner wanted after being told originally they werent available on the package we were on~halved our line rental(i'm on a £35 package but pay £17.50 which is more than enough for me, my partner on a £50 but pays £25) and doubled our txts&minutes~he also gets free long weekend calls~ and as an extra billy bonus we got 12 month contracts instead of the usual 18~two months later O2 rang to inform me taht we were also due £100 cashback on our contracts(for being loyal customers apparantly!) or another new phone~so we took one new phone (sold on ebay £200!) and £100 towards our contracts! Suppose it all depends on who you to talk to as the first person i spoke to was rude and obstinant yet the second more than helpful!0

Well, I just phoned Orange back and told them I was calling to accept their offer from this afternoon.
Now, when I spoke to retentions earlier they asked did i want them to leave a note of the offer on my account. I said no.
So anyway, I phone back about an hour ago and go straight through saying I was accepting the offer knowing full well there wasnt a record of it. Guys asked what I was offered so I said-
600 minutes X Network,
Unlimited texts,
3 magic numbers
N95 for free.
18 months
and the Line Rental for the duration at £25.
Guy said he couldnt find the offer on their system but he could do the following for me-
2400 minutes X Network a month (does anyone really use that amount??)
Unlimited Texts
3 Magic Numbers
N95 for Free
18 month Contract
Line rental for 1st 9 Months £30
Line rental for 2nd 9 Months £35
Bonus!!
Total Cost= £585
:T
I think the 1st girl must have been on her moons or something as she was a right grump. 2nd guy didnt even haggle just offered it straight up with no messing.0 -
Apologies if this has been mentioned before but there is another way to drive the price down when signing upto Orange.
Orange shops were offering £ 100 cash back for your old mobile phone. The thing is this applies to ANY old phone as long as it's in working order. No accessories are required just the phone itself. Not sure on the details surrounding the cashback i.e. whether £ 100 is credited to your bankers card or is it in the form of a credit on your bill.
This offer isn't widely publicised and seems to appear and disappear from their website every few weeks.
I've had verbal confirmation from the Orange shop as recently as 3 weeks ago that this offer was still valid. I personally decided against it as I wanted to take advantage of their combined Broadband/Mobile package at £ 35 a month and apparently you can't have accept this offer AND the £ 100 cash back. It's one or the other.
I've even heard of people buying old phones on Ebay for a tenner in order to hand them in for the cash back offer !No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
