I want to use the voip service. As far as I am aware orange and voda have disabled that on there n95 handsets. If I get it on orange and unlock it, would it then enable the voip feature?

I have also seen them go on ebay but I am not sure how much and if it is possible to unlock it to all networks. Does anyone have the prices to unlock the n95 on the 4 networks?

To unlock it will be £30

I don't think its a matter of unlocking the phone, The voip features as far as I know are disabled by the firmware, so in theory by flashing the phone with an unbranded (ie non orange etc) firmware version then the voip features should work just fine.

I think you should wait before buying a Nokia N95. There are plenty of threads out there which complain about a hardware fault where people hear a high pitched whine from the phone and hiss through the headphones.

I got myself a handset last week, and have the same problems. Will be asking for a replacement on Tuesday, but from what I have read, people have had to go through 3-4 replacements some with luck, and some without.

As I understand it, these phones cannot be `unlocked` unless done by the service operator, if the phone is on contract, they won`t let you.

    Hi dealingwithit,

I was offered that deal as well - there are two options with it though and it's better to take it at the £20 p/m option and pay the £64.99 for the phone instead of the £25 p/m option as the extra £5 p/m amounts to paying an extra £90 so that way you save £25.

    Regards

    Thanks everyone for replying.

Oh so can you change the firmware yourself or would I have to get it done?

James-73 where can you get it unlocked without the service provider and how much would it be?
  • After a very polite battle, I got 200 mins, unlimited texts and magic number with a free N95 for £25/m and they waived the end of my other contract for free.

She had no idea what the hell voip was, do you think i'll be able to call up when I get my phone say i'm angry about voip and get a discount or extra minutes?

    Should arrive tomorrow, thanks everyone!
