  • Hi sorry if this has been asked before but can anyone tell me if you can claim bank charges if you have had your account closed by the bank as overdraft could'nt be paid.

Hi, I had a credit card with Lloyds TSB which I paid off and closed the account in 2004. I know I had quite a few late payment fees and charges for going over my limit between 2002 and 2004 which I would now like to try and reclaim. Obviously I need to start by asking for details of all the charges but as I no longer have any paperwork for this card I don't know my account number. Does anyone know how I could find out what the account number was?

    TIA
  • Hi, I had the same problem with Egg. I simply wrote a letter giving them all my details, ie name, address, date of birth etc and told them when my account was closed. I was lucky that I had a note of when I cleared the balance and closed the account. They just sent me a reply asking me to forward a cheque to them so I am hoping they can re-trace my account.

I forgot to mention, I had a current account with them at the same time which is still active. If I write to them with the details of the current account will they be able to send me the list of charges for the credit card?

You just need to ask them in regards to what data they hold on you . Supply your name and address and that should do it.

  • Can anyone help me?

I have separated from my husband and the joint account we had has now been closed, is there anyway I can still reclaim any bank charges?

Yes, you can claim in exactly the same way. However if the bank is aware that you are separated they may insist that half of any refund is paid to your husband.
  • Would anyone know if you can re-claim overdraft charges from a standard Barclays current account that has been cancelled about 2 years ago?

My partner and me banked with Barclays for many years. This until we took the big step and switch to a better current accound deal at other bank. During our many years at Barclays, we received several £25.00 charges for being overdraft. Altough we always monitored our account, it sometimes happened that we only replenished our account 1 day after being overdrawn Still we got charged £25.00 each time this happened... As you can imagine, we were never overdrawn for big amounts, but still got charged.

Has anyone experience with starting the reclaim process for accounts that have been closed for over 2 years? Would it still be possible to start process? I still have all the statements as proof.
  • Hi ,
I closed my account with Barclays in 2005 but have kept all my statements. Can anyone tell me if I can claim the charges back for this account? (I know it might be a long shot).
    Thanks,
