I've been reading with interest about reclaiming bank charges, I have had an account with Natwest (about 2 years ago) and Barclays (cant remember when i had my account with them)
I just wondered when you send the letters asking for them to send you your bank statements from the past 6 years does it matter if the account is closed? (my natwest account is in a dmp and has been for 2 years for the overdraft) when I write the letter do I have to include my account numbers and sort codes or will they know just from my name? Am just wondering if I need to dig out an old statement to find these out?
Also I dont have a cheque book so do they accept postal orders for the £10 charge?
Thanks very much for any advice0 -

Hello,
I have recently changed banks, and would like to know if I can still claim bank charges on my old account, or can I only claim bank charges from my current bank?
If anyone can advise it would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Firstly, sorry if this topic has been covered before but after searching through the forum I couldn't find the exact info I was looking for.
I had a credit card with Capital One from about 2004-2007, which I eventually payed off and closed. In the time I had the card I was charged thirty odd pound every time I missed a payment or went over my overdraft limit. I'm guessing the total amount must come to at least £400 or so. However, I don't know the exact figure and unfortunately didn't keep a record of my account number. I've only recently discovered that I'm able to claim back these charges but without my account details I'm not sure what would be the best first course of action to take. My address details, etc, are still the same as when I had the card.
If anyone has been in a similar situation and successfully claimed back the charges I'd really appreciate if you could tell me what was the first step you took in making a claim.
Thanks a lot.0 -

Is it possible to reclaim charges from a current account which has been closed? I closed my account with First Direct about 7 or 8 months ago. I have all the statements from the past 6 years.
Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks for the reply. The thing is as I don't know my account number I'm not sure what to do first. If I write to them and ask for my closed account details will they suspect I am going to make a claim and then either not send me the details or delay in sending them? Are they obliged to provide me with details of a previously held account? If so, does it come under the Data Protection Act or something similar? I'm still unsure about what my first step should be. If anyone has been in a similar situation I'd really appreciate any advice.
Thanks again.0 -
