hello,
i have read the template letter on the reclaim credit card charges section but i cant remember my account number. what should i do? should i send them all my personal details so they can trace me in there computer system? im not really keen on sending these through the post! help!

Hi, I've just had the same problem on 12 credit cards i've had in the last 12 years.
MBNA - A&L, MBNA - Virgin, Beneficial Finance & Barclaycard gave me my account number over the phone - from this i completed template 1 requesting my statements. Have been cheeky and have not sent £10 cheque - A&L already replied with sttements and haven't charged.
Halifax One, Mint & Lloyds TSB - couldn't give me the details over the phone as they couldn't find any records of me having an account with them - they suggested this is because my account had been closed well over a year ago and recommended i write to them with the full name of account holder, account holder address, DOB......as i have access tomy credit report through experian i included the date i started the ccount and settled it. Hope this helps.0 -
Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I can't find anywhere else it fits. I wrote to Capital One a few weeks ago requesting statements and gave loads of personal info (last 3 addresses,DOB etc) as I closed the account last June and don't have a note of the account number. They wrote back saying they couldn't find me on the system. I called this morning and spent 20 minutes trying to get someone to admit to having my details but they are still saying they can't find me on their system. Can anyone suggest what I should do next? I've obtained my credit report but that only gives me the last 4 digits of the account number. Thanks in advance.0

card co's should be able to do a search by your name.. but then we are talking about cap1..
have you paid any previous bills by cheque? may be worth asking your bank for a copy of front/back of last chq (fee payable, no doubt).. most firms i have worked for always but customer's account nmber on the back, so they can trace it..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
I too have had the same problem with Lloyds TSB, Cap 1, & Barclays. But i asked over the phone for my account number..........all told me to write. Except Barclaycard who told me my account number, which only turned out to be 13 digits which i no to be incorrect. So wrote to them with the 13 digits and the rest of my details and they wrote back telling me they can't find me at all on the system - told them its amazing one person can, yet you can't. They told me again to write!! I lectured the poor guy on the end of the phone - who suddenly found my account details, but couldn't give me them over the phone. He's sent a letter to me, which i should receive in the next few days. Finding some credit card companies very hard work. MBNA seem to be best so far0

I phoned back and they are still saying that they can't find my details on the system. I'm planning to write a letter now but can anyone suggest what I can threaten them with? I though about saying I'm going to contact the Information Commissioners Office regarding non compliance with the data protection act. Will this work or should I say something else?0

Where can i get copies of bank account statements of an account that was closed in 2004 when my divorce was finalised so i can claim back the charges? anyone help?0 -
If you're a party to the account ask the Bank. If not, it's doubtful you could get access to it. Follow the links in the guide.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0
