    Hello :)

I started getting into debt when I was 18. I'm 24 now. When I was 18, I was unemployed for a few months, and went overdrqawn a lot, and must've been charged about ten times for overdraft fees. Obviously now, it seems we can claim this back. It'll be six years in January since I started to pay these fees, so I guess I need to be quick. The only problem is, it was with a bank account that I haven't used for years, and I have no details or letters from with account number or anything. The bank was HSBC. Does anyone know how I can get details about what charges I've paid? Can I write them a letter asking for the details under the Data Protection Act? If so, would I need to include payment for it? And does anoyone know the correct correspondence address for HSBC?

Sorry this is a bit rambly or nonsensical, I'm typing very quickly as I'm being naughty and doing it at work :)

Tahnks for any help you can offer!

    Luke

Luke, you can request the charge information under the DPA. If you don't have account number, you will need to provide them with enough information to satisfy your identity and enable them to trace the account.

This means Full name, D.O.B, Account Branch, Account type, Date of Opening, Any Addresses listed on account, as much as possible basically.

You will need to provide £10 in payment for this information.

The address should be in the Reclaim Help thread (link in my signature).
  • I have lost my old BOS bank account number, closed in 2004. Will my address only be enough to try to claim for excessive charges on this account (typically £20 every three days if over my limit)?

    Hi,

I posted a similar question earlier today:

    Hi Everyone

I am going to have a go at reclaiming my bank charges (I know I've left it a bit late!)

I've read the Emergency Guide, but I have a question and I can't seem to find the answer in the forum.

Do you have to pay the £10 fee per bank account?
Plus, what do you do if you don't have the account numbers for all your accounts? Can I request them from the bank? One of the accounts that I want to reclaim is for a joint account with my ex... that account is now closed, and I dont have the number. If I were to obtain the number from them would a request for charges info need to go from joint names or can I do it alone?

    Many thanks everyone in advance.

  • I want to close my account asap but don't want this to affect me reclaiming my charges. Does anyone know what the rules are? Thanks
  • Hi All,

I am a bit stuck with a situation with my bank and wonder if any one can message with any ideas?

My bank has closed my account due to an overdraft I couldn't pay off immediately.

It has now been paid but they are closing my account and my question is,

Will I still be entitled to reclaim bank charges if the test case is heard and passed, whether my account is open or closed? Does it matter?

    Thanks alot Sweeneytoddy
  • You can start to reclaim them now account closed or not and the test case doesnt prevent you either, yo dont have to wait until after.
