As I understand it, account fees cannot be reclaimed - only penalty charges. Yes, penalty chargescan be reclaimed (in theory) on closed accounts. But read around this forum for the current problems with FOS and courts. You will need to judge whether the 'perks' you get for your monthly fee are worth it. Most aren't0

yes you can as long as the charges occured within the last 6 years, thou at the mo with the test case of the OFT, you may only get an acknowledgement from the bank, but the way to look at it is, your be 1 step up the ladder xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Hi everyone
I have just registered to use forum, hope I can get some help!
Last September I closed a current account (2006) because bank kept sending me overdrawn. It all started with a very few DD returning but because I was in a very low paid job at the time (childcare) - I didn't have the money to cover these charges and so I was being charged for being overdrawn; THAT THEY CAUSED!
I spoke to my bank a few times but they were not willing to help.
I then took matters in my hands and closed the account. Account dates from 1999 - 2006
Can I reclaim on the last six years of the accountORcan I only claim for the six years from this year, 2007?
I hope someone can answer my very needy question. I'm hoping for the last six years of account as I want to pay off ALL my debt!!!!
as debt is getting me well down these days. I want to buy my first home

There is a difference of opinion on this. Normally the answer would be six years from the date the claim would be issued. So you could only go back to 2001. However CAG and others have maintained that you can go beyond six years relying on one of the exceptions in the Limitation Act. I know that one person who had a recent hearing was trying to go beyond six years but do not know if he was successful. Personally, I would only go back six years unless I had expert legal adviceAs I am not the Pope or legally qualified I may be wrong so feel free to get a second opinion from a qualified person0 -
I had an HSBC account 2 years ago that accrued a lot of charges, in fact I had 2.....I had to go to debt counselling and the accounts were closed. I now wish to claim my charges on these accounts.
I then opened one with Alliance and Leicester...which I am now closing and wish to claim charges on this one.
I now have a joint account with my partner....at HSBC. If I claim the charges on my 2 previous HSBC accounts, are they likely to close the one I currently have with my partner?
Thank you0
