Yes, you are more entitled to claim whether the account is active or not :D

They will just pay any monies you win by means of cheque or into another account if you provide details

About time this question was on a sticky ;)

What bout if the account was passed onto a debt collection agency whom you have since paid, can you still claim back charges then?

It is. See post 12 (Frequently Asked Questions) in the Reclaim Bank Charges Help Thread. Only that people don't seem to read stickies!

Hi, ive been thinking of claiming back some bank charges for a while now but i'm worried of several different things.

Firstly, i was with HSBC for about 8 years, i had a normal bank account, a high interest savings account and a loan with them.

In may 2005 i entered into an IVA so the HSBC account was closed and they accepted my IVA offer.

Obviously the main reason i went into the iva was because i had severe money problems, and couldnt afford the repayments on the loan, so incurred numerous charges, sometimes upto £70 a day.

Am i able to claim anything back from HSBC? Or is it going to rock the boat with them and get me into trouble with my IVA?

Also these accounts have been closed since May 2005, am i in any position at all to claim anything back?

If anyone has been in the same situation, please help :)

    Thanks for reading

Just one more quick question before i start the ball rolling, The charges are only £15 for my store cards will i still be able to reclaim and will it now be somewhat harder.

  • My old bank (Halifax) were an absolute disgrace - they used to charge me every other week so i must be owed at least hundreds.

i closed the account 3 years ago because it was upsetting me too much.

Can i still reclaim these charges even though i don't have this account anymore?

    kind regards

Yes you can but you can only reclaim the last 6 years, not the last 6 years of you having that account. Just a preventative answer to a question that might arise.
