Ive got the gardman one and its great but I lost a couple of panels a few weeks ago in the winds they just kept blowing out and the 'W' clips are a bit rubbish I have to say, but we are glueing them in now with clear sealant to see if that works. Great greenhouse though

hi, y'all.
I've always wanted a greenhouse and now I'm in a position to install one.
the plan is to build a 720mm brick base for the frame to sit on (OH's idea).
all very simple.
but what about the frame? should I go for a softwood (tanallated) or the pricier hardwood?
the supplier tells me to expect £1000 + for the h/wood and £480 for the s/wood.
never having attempted anything like this before I could well do for some advice on this.
I'm not even sure if the prices quoted are fair, until I do further research.
any advice much appreciated.miladdo0 -
Hi
I want to buy a 6 * 4 greenhouse and found a budget greenhouse for £69 is it any good?
http://www.norfolk-greenhouses.co.uk/shop/shop-infopage.php?longref=175~0
Or, any other good ideas would be grateful?
Thanks0 -
  DON'T BUY IT!!!
The Norfolk Greenhouses, have terrible instructions (they also supply Tescos and other stores) The construction is poor Aluminium and strong winds just blow out the perspex panes, I know because I wasted £110 on one, spent 3 weeks trying to put it together, and after the first storm it blew to pieces.
I am saving my pennies for a good wood one now.My Mind wanders, if found please return.0 -
You have to be patient, tolerant and probably a Saint to put a Norfolk greenhouse together. We did and it's still a by word for a nightmare - "oh no it's like a Norfolk Greenhouse".
Saying that it's still ther 10 years later thanks to gaffa tape duck tape and some very long screws!

We ended up building our own as a stopgap while we saved, and we like it so much we're not going to bother with a proper one. Most people are probably more interested in how it looks than we are, but it does the job so it might work for you as a stopgap until you can afford a decent one?

Freecycle....
There must have been a dozen or more green houses on their the last couple of months....:D
Its worth the extra effort to dissmantle and collect it, trust me.
You won't get one cheaper. To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
Hi - whilst on the subject of greenhouses, I wouldnt advise you to buy a Polycarbonate one from WILKINSONS.
I bought one for my husbands birthday - a 10ft x 8ft one that cost £300.
I now have a husband and a son in law on the verge of nervous breakdown!
They have spent 2 days trying to work it out. It was made in China (no manufacturers name) and there are no written instructions at all, only pictures! It also shows you to start by assembling the greenhouse THEN AFTERWARDS assemble the base frame and lift the greenhouse onto it!!
I have to admit that it is quite light, none the less they are frightened to pick it up and move it in case it disintegrates!!
There is a helpline number which my husband will be ringing tomorrow, but if anyone else out there has bought one of these and SUCCESSFULLY ASSEMBLED IT we would be very grateful for any tips.
It looked absolutely perfect on Wilkinsons online site and I thought my husband would be over the moon, but he is very disappointed, plus there are bits missing and pieces they (the manufacturers) assembled the wrong way round!
Any ideas anyone???
P: We also had a Norfolk many years ago, when young, and that blew away!0 -
Hi
I dont want to buy a greenhouse for this year, but am prepared to buy one when they are in the "Sales",
My question is, are there greenhouse sales?
And when do they start?
And Where?
Thanks0 -
This is my Norfolk Greenhouse:
I'll admit, it wasn't easy to put together. It's not a one-man job. It took me about 8-10 months - frame assembled at the end of summer, then it got left until a month or so ago. Once you go past the frame stage, it really has to be completed. When it's just the frame, at least the wind blows through it and it doesn't go anywhere.
We've had some strong winds recently. It hasn't moved, and none of the panels have blown out. No complaints so far...it seems fairly solid.
And it was cheap...less than £180 for a 6' x 6' greenhouse. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
