I have 2 pvc covered greenhouses. Bought from homebase 3 years ago in their sale. When I put them up,I made sure each ground pole was facing the other way so that when I pegged them down, the kewers go in alternate ways. First pole ,skewers point in,second one they point out. That way when the wind blows, it pulls on one set of skewers and pushes the next one into the ground harder. Tie the cover on after firming all the poles as they will expand after they are assembled. I bought two new reinforced covers last year but the old ones are still holding together quite well and could easily do another year.

To a certain extent you get what you pay for in terms of greenhouses. The ones at B&Q are frankly crap, although cheap - they seem to be very shoddily made.

The Incredibly Sensible Greenhouse Company does a 4x4' walk-in greenhouse, which is well made (we went out to their place today, we are looking to buy a greenhouse) and will last a good long time. They also do several smaller lean-to greenhouses, which are more expensive than the larger, traditional ones for some reason.

That must have been added fairly recently as I did check for one. The question is though, do they actually answer if you ring that number ;)

I don't know what you've decided to do but you mention you have a plastic greenhouse... If it one of the slot-together plastic ones with a pull on cover (or the person who has had the cover rip on the zips) Wilkinsons have both greenhouses and covers in at the moment. I just bought a new cover today after my plastic perished at the hands of frosts and a sparrowhawk (don't ask!) Think it was £4 ish.

We haven;t had any problems with it moving, have used bits of wire into the ground to hold it down.

  • Last year I bought one of those mini greenhouses from INstore. 3 shelves, push together tubes and a sort of plastic "zip-up" cover.

The cover has seen better days (zip torn away from plastic). I tried running repairs, but the wind ruined it.The structure is still perfectly OK, can anyone suggest anything that would withstand British weather even if it's for this year only, but that can be easily removed and replaced (if necessary) and would make it possible to ventilate it in hotter weather.

Or am I going to have to spend £9.99 on another :rotfl:   ?

I bought one of these as well and my cover appears to have cracked, I assume with the cold (stored in the shed) I would also be grateful for any tips

  • Reading the comments about the mini greenhouse. I had one of these. As the posts commented about the plastic cover, it either cracks and or splits or the zips give up the ghost. Keep an eye out for Netto.

Last year I got a new cover for the frame that was still AOK and if my memory serves me correctly it was around £3 for a new cover.

Hope the link works as this is my first post.
