Greenhouse recomendations

Options
All,
Can anyone reccomend a good value place to get my greenhouse. I found one supplier that I liked but they where talking 9 weeks delivery.

I'm after 10x6 or 8x6 and live in Northumberland.

Also, can anyone comment on how big a job putting up a greenhouse is, we'll be using large concrete pavers, is it a job for me & the Mrs or will I be calling "relate" afterwards...

Thanks!,

Mike

  • We bought ours last november from https://www.greenhousesdirect.co.uk - a 6x8 Europa manor regent, toughened glass, extra autovent, staging, seed rack, x2 roof vents, louvre and x2 down pipes.

They do UK wide delivery and also put us in touch with a "putter upper" v nice bloke from Wakefield - I think he works throughout the north of england. We have the greenhouse on the ground, concreted in at each corner - and it's still there after last week's bad weather!

It wasn't the chespaest option to have it installed, but we could not have even attempted to DIY it so it was the best for us.

The customer service was very good too - we knew when it was coming and as I recall it was here very quickly - much quiker than their advertised delivery schedule. :)

Avoid the Norfolk Greenhouses (Sheet semi-rigid perspex) the instructions are lousy.

We are going to invest in a greenhouse. Are prepared to spend a reasonable amount of money and get one that lasts and is low maintainence, toughened glass automatic vents etc, has anyone any recomendations. Or alternatively what not to touch with a bargepole.
    Thanks, Alison

May i suggest an idea which I have employed... as VOLUME of air is rather more important than any other factor, I excavated a hole the size of the greenhouse base and concreted the base of the hole. After which I built a brick wall around it and placed the greenhouse frame atop this. As change in condition is more damaging than actual condition, the greater the volume the longer time change takes. Another idea which I shall be investigating is ... a heat sink in the greenhouse helps with cold nights etc. Large water store in one corner will absorb heat during day and let it out at night. if this is also fed from environmental sources it is better, but at least you will almost always have water at more suitable temperature for greenhouse watering than if from other sources (unless left in watering can to warm from earlier drawings.

Following on my my vegetables in greenhouse blowing away I now need a new greenhouse!!

My plastic one was from freecycle, but I can no longer use it incase it does this again.

Does anyone know of anywhere that sells cheap mini REAL proper glass greenhouses that are smaller than the usual 6 x 4 ones? I have seen a few sites but I am looking at at least 100 quid!!! I am desperate for one as my newly sewn seeds are getting cold!!

I would be grateful if anyone could help me.
Our dream has come true... :D

    Hi

I got mine from the local paper - people give them away if you can collect or sell them really cheap - quick scan through lasts weeks and there was one for £30!

Does anyone know how good the budget greenhouse at £69 is?

It says its covered with pvc sheeting off a roll....is that like polythene or is it rigid stuff?

    Thanks, Becka1248
