I was very shocked to be honest because she really wasn't always like this, she was a truly lovely person that I trusted completely. I felt really hurt and upset at first but since that wasn't going to change anything I decided to direct my emotions at something more positive. Got the youngsters involved in doing a massive clear out of outgrown clothes and unused baby equipment and we did quite a few journeys to drop it all off at a chosen charity shop.

I feel like a bit of an idiot over the whole situation but will nonetheless survive. My mum has literally hundreds of little sayings that can be applied to most life experiences. The one most suited to this I think is that worse things happen to better people. It has certainly helped when any self pity has been creeping back.
  • That woman is truly off her rocker!

Your life is sooooo much better without her in it, in any way shape or form by the sound of it.

Koalamummy - YOU have nothing to feel like an idiot for! Honestly! you behaved impeccably from the first.
you were texted and instead of saying 'yes of course you can have the money' - you wisely sought advice.
Us cynical folks on here advised you not to - you were free to ignore this! you set up a meeting and realised you were being played.
you decided not to lend the money and left it to exfriend to contact you again.
she did - and you didn't even outright refuse! you asked questions and said you wanted to discuss with OH.
Then got savaged! Now where in all this was the idiot? nowhere!
    Put it behind you hun!
Its awful to say this - but perhaps there is a very good spiritual reason she isn't a mother. she doesn't really come across as a 'good person to raise a child' does she?

I have followed this thread from the first post but I still don't understand why she expected you to fund her IVF?

You are not an idiot. She is a stupid moo because she has lost a very good friend.

What a despicable person, maybe it's a blessing in disguise she can't get pregnant

I can't help thinking you'd still have got the outburst as soon as the cheque had cleared even if you'd given her the money.

That's exactly what my OH said, she would have been a 'pretend friend' how sickening
