  • Yay well done HAW! Money maker do stick with the Zumba, even if you're not going full speed you're still exercising :)

Last night was my night off from the gym, but I dusted off my Latinasize DVD, just did salsa and rumba and some really deep stretching :)

Tonight is heavy lifting again, and then I'm off for my hair cut - it's gotten down to my waist again and my "fringe" covers my face and has to be pinned to one side lol!

    Hi everyone,

I've had a quick skim through this thread (haven't read every single comment although I have tried to read most)...

I decided a few weeks ago that I would start some exercise but couldn't really decide what to do... I've done home workout DVDs in the past and not really stuck to it, have joined gyms and never stuck to them either, I don't know why I just was never motivated enough. Anyway, the local gym runs different classes every night, as I'm sure most gyms do, so I decided to sign up to the gym (a full membership) so I could take advantage of some of the classes. At £6 a pop for non members, even if I only do 2 per week I'm going to be getting my monthly fees worth!

I joined up and went to the actual gym a few times although I was never motivated to work hard enough or stay long enough, I just got bored as I was on my own so have decided to take a different view of it and just use the membership to do 4 or 5 different classes per week as I much prefer them to 'working out'.

So far I've done a spin class (which absolutely killed me so am thinking of waiting to do that again until I've built up some strength in my poor legs) and a couple of leg bums and tums classes which I really enjoyed so now I've booked up my whole week next week with different classes.

I thought I'd join this thread for some inspiration and motivation because I'm sure there'll be a day where I just can't be bothered to exercise! Hope you don't mind!

Good luck everybody, keep at it and I'm sure you'll all be reaping the rewards soon enough, if you're not already!!

Hello ap1986! You are very welcome indeed :D

Motivation is usually my problem too!! :o But usually once I'm actually doing the exercise I'm fine, it's just getting started!!

    My 'schedule' is...
walk to/from work 5 days a week (1.5 miles at a fairly brisk pace!)
try to do a workout DVD on a Mon or Tues evening
    and Zumba on a Thursday

For me I think that's plenty as I'm not trying to lose weight. I just want to be fit and healthy.

Sometimes me and OH be out for walks/hikes at the weekend, and I always try to get out for some fresh air at lunch time too (just back from 1.5 mile walk in the sunshine today :D)

I think it's great that you've booked up various classes ap1986. Try them all and see which are your favs. But just make sure you don't overdo it and put yourself off!!

Good luck and keep us posted :D

HBS: wee random question for you (again!!)
When I do a lot of cardio/high intensity/heart pumping kinda exercise, I find that sometimes my ear kinda blocks up with that high ringing noise, and my head goes a bit light. I feel a bit woozy on it and my balance is off. I'm assuming it's either I'm seriously unfit, I'm hopeless at getting a steady breath, or it's lack of oxygen. Or all 3.
Happened again last night when nearly finished my run. Ear still ringing today so it doesn't disappear after an hour or anything.
    Any suggestions?

  • How odd HAW! I've not heard that before - but would think it might be lack of oxygen, hyperventilation can cause light-headedness.

Might be worth a quick word with the doc if it keeps up though. *hug*

    Thanks HAW!!
I used to walk to and from work, although not far. Now though, I work a good 15 miles away from where I live so I have to drive it - another reason why I need the exercise because I need to at least gain some of what I got from walking to and from work every day.

Your schedule seems very good and even better that you're sticking to it! For me, my motivation is to become healthy and shed some pounds, well quite a few pounds. I suppose, like anything, once you get into the habit of it it becomes second nature. I'm hoping it'll also become a hobby as my OH works quite far away and he doesn't often get home before 9pm so it's something to do when I'm bored at home on my own!

I also had the ear thing you're saying about when I'd done my spinning class... I made sure I kept myself hydrated through the whole class although towards the end I felt a bit light headed and the ear thing happened to me. I'm not sure what it is but I just assumed, like you, that it was due to being unfit or not breathing right?! Hopefully someone will know what that's all about!

    Welcome ap1986.

Wow, all of a sudden everyones been really busy. HAW, last time I tried to go for a run was with DS1 (at night so no one could see me). I never even made the end of the road!

But I'm fitter now. I can move my shoulders without cracking, I can wiggle my bum and spin my hips (still can't do hula hooping with DD's hoop though). Having said all that, Zumba was hard work today and I didn't really 'go for it' as I should. Still, I feel much better for it. Even if I can't find the time to keep up with 30ds, I shall keep trying to do one or two of the youtube 10min workouts at night.

And I'm still losing weight (changed my diet).

Having a rest tonight before my blitz on the body via classes.

Tomorrow night I'm at a 'step n tone' class... Not too sure exactly what this consists of but its worth a go!

Last time I ran anywhere I was a bit like you Money Maker... Has put me off for a while but I'm determined to do some running when I'm a bit more agile (if that ever happens )

Well, did the step n tone class tonight... Was fun although would've been better if I could coordinate my feet. Ended up just doing my own thing at one point!

At the end of the class the instructor asked if it was my first time, she could clearly tell it was :o

I'll definitely be going back next week!

Tomorrow is step aerobics. I'm guessing it'll be much the same as tonight so it could be interesting :rotfl:

A massive well done fairyclicks! I love it when hard work pays off and it clearly is for you :T

Hope you've all had a good, active day!

  • I went to what I call my "madness session" last night - it's supposed to be LARP fighting but ends up being sparring, wrestling dancing, or whatever else we fancy.

Did a lot of spear fighting which is great for the arms - they're heavy - and some running around and stretching. Then my friend decided to pick me up on his shoulders and carry me round for a while - so I must have lost some weight haha!
