I switched on the 29th and was previously with Scottish Power too, I've logged into my Scottish Power account and it is showing my electricity account as closed but the gas one is still live, last year when I moved over to Scottish Power from Eon both accounts didn't move over on the same day. I looked at my account details and it's showing direct debit amount as zero and I'm about £250 in credit. I'm not closing my direct debit as my final bill still needs to be made up and once I've had that I'll chase them to pay the remainder back into my bank account.
I switched from Scottish Power on 7th Oct, and SP automatically repaid my remaining credit back into my bank on 25th Oct. Having said that, I've still not received any sort of final paperwork from them, in fact they've not been in contact at all.

    How very rude of them.

Energy companies now have a reputation of ringing you up and begging you not to leave (rather than the doorstep selling). However if SP try and ring me , they'll be ringing themselves as I gave them one of their own Head Office numbers ! I've given M&S, an M&S branch number - always good for a laugh, imagining the results ;)

Switched online on 30/9. Received confirmation that switch will complete on 4/11 and got M&S vouchers.

At what point can I add meter online and also choose paperless billing?

    After the switch completion date?

The letter states that you can choose paperless billing online.

I think the meter read boxes appeared about 5 days after the switch took place.

I`d ring their customer services on the switching day if I were you to give the readings. My paperless billing option was already chosen, think that's assumed if you applied online.

I provided meter readings over a week ago by text, a day or so before my scheduled switch date of 28 October ( advised by a Southern Electric operator ). I haven't had any letters though advising that the switch is taking place.

Today I have logged into EON, my supposed old supplier and I am still very much a live customer and they are requesting meter readings for the new bill.

I have also logged into Southern Electric and the meter reading boxes are there now so I have submitted more up to date readings, although the Gas one registered with a usage charge???? and the Electric came up with a message 'sorry we can't process yet we'll send this to someone to have a look at', you what!!!

Still haven't a clue where I am at all with this switch, and at this present moment in time I am lost for words about how awful this whole sorry process has been. I switched almost 7 weeks ago and have had almost no information to keep me abreast of the switch, and I am still utterly in the dark about what the dickens is going on.

It seems wholly clear to me that M&S Energy is not up to the task, how about some sort of apology from them about the protracted delays and an explanation of why it is taking so long, and not just the usual rubbish about unprecedented demands blah blah blah.
  • From applying it took approximately 5 weeks for the switch to become active.

If I log into my old provider it says both Gas/Electric are closed accounts.

I phoned up SSE, spoke to person and provided readings before the switch day.

However if I log into SSE my Electric has the ability to enter a meter reading but my Gas still does not have this ability.

Is this normal - it is 1 day after switch?

Is there any way I can check the readings they have recorded?

    Thanks

My switch completed on 4 Nov. My Scottish Power accounts were closed that day when viewed online.

I rang M&S to give meter readings as facility online is not active yet. I personally dont think they actually take much notice of any further readings after the initial reading, as they seem to only review usage/payment once per year according to the person I spoke to.

Others have said the online meter reading facility becomes active some time later. Just checked and I can input readings so that's 2 days after opening.
  • My switch completed on 5th November. I left my meter readings on that day on the phone line. As my input boxes had not appeared online I phoned them today. Guess what? My meter readings had not appeared on their system!

I was told once they had my readings everything would be activated.

Even though I spoke to someone with my readings I got an automated telephone call a few days later asking for a reading I knew something was wrong. The person I had spoken to had only entered one of the readings.

If you do not get submit meter reading boxes appearing after a couple of days phone up again to confirm they have entered your readings and have activated the switch.

I now have submit meter reading boxes in both electric and gas so hopefully I am sorted and the readings will be passed to my old provider now.

Anyone had a final bill from their old provider yet - how long did it take from submitting reading to M&S/SSE to receiving your final bill?
