I'd like to know that I can talk to someone at OVO if needed, especially at the start or a switch from EDF, and unsure whether to go for online only or online and phone. Any advice from people who have OVO accounts? Can you still talk to them if there's an issue?
This is my concern as well. they offer a discount for online only but what if you really do need to speak to somebody do you miss out on the discount?

Can anyone clarify if the £60 discount for dual fuel for using online only is deducted from the final bill after 1yr or is it included as a discount on the tariff rates?

I emailed them last week and got the following reply.

The £60.00 discount we offer!would!show up separately!every month!on your statement and will make no difference to your unit rates or standing charges.
--- Hitting the thanks button as often as is needed ---

Did you not supply Ovo with regular readings when you were with them?

I did it online at the end of every month and always got a bill based on those readings :)

    Gave them readings every month.

Transfer to Ovo from Scottish Power was seamless, I even suggested to Ovo (backed up with historical data) to reduce direct debit by £5 which they were happy to do.

I received an Energy Alert today, advising me that I could save over £50 (my target amount) by switching energy supplier from Southern Electric to Ovo.

Having read through this thread from the beginning - truly! - I decided to play it safe and approach Ovo direct as a potential new customer. They quoted £885 p.a. for their cheapest tariff (online only, 15% renewables, fixed until April 2015), which was the same estimate as Cheap Energy Club. However, Ovo thought they would be saving me £45 p.a., whereas Cheap Energy Club thought the saving would be £93.

A few quick calculations identified the probable cause of the discrepancy. Cheap Energy Club had used two tariff costs for Southern Electric: "Your dual fuel tariff is due to end in 5 months and 20 days. If you don't switch, your supplier will roll you onto its standard tariff. Your cost and saving calculations are based on 5 months and 20 days on 'Southern Electric Discount Bonus Oct 14' and 6 months and 10 days on the standard tariff." Ovo had probably used the 'Discount Bonus Oct 14' tariff for the full 12 months.

So if Ovo saves me £45 p.a. based on my current tariff, it would save me £19 for the last 5 months of that tariff, plus I would get a £30 switching cashback, making a total saving of £49 over the 5 months. But my early exit penalty from my current tariff is £50!

I've decided it's too close to call at the moment. I'm very happy with Southern Electric, and their online system is the best I've used (since 2006, I've tried npower, EDF, Scottish Power and Atlantic). I'll review the situation in August.

On the cheaper energy plan, do you lose your discount if you contact them by email (for a query that can't be resolved in my account directly)? I know you do if you phone them.

Ovo website doesn't seem to be very clear on this.

Ovo - cheaper energy fixed tariff - I downloaded the Ovo energy our prices, it indicates Fixed until 2016 + Fixed for 12 months, my query is about the early termination fees of £60 for dual fuel is the contract for 12 month or until 2016

I'm considering changing to Ovo - when I get the full info, which is not available from their website - I'll be using a cashback website so don't want to phone them up.

I've just switched to their fixed tariff - mine is 12 months from when I started, which for me runs until May 2015.

I was swayed by all of the positive feedback and decided to switch to Ovo Cheaper Energy 12 month fixed deal. The switching process went very smoothly; I thought there must be a catch, and there was. First sign of problems was receiving emails from them that were completely irrelevant to my account. Emails that referred to me leaving Ovo as opposed to me joining. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and put it down to automatically generated system emails. I emailed them back to point out that they had sent me nonsense emails but had no reply. Two days ago, just days after my switch had gone through, I receive a whole raft of emails from them saying that my fixed term deal had come to AN END, that they were glad I am CHOSEN TO STAY WITH THEM, that I am now on a VARIABLE rate tariff and that if I want another fixed rate tariff why don't I look at the deals they have on offer!! I quickly went on line and, sure enough, my account is now a variable rate tariff. I emailed Customer Services immediately to ask what on earth was going on, & to please explain why they put me on a variable rate tariff when I have applied for a 12m fixed but, as yet, have had no reply. As a new customer, for them to screw this up so badly and then not have the decency to reply to my query is unacceptable. They will have a few more days to reply and then I will be switching again to someone else. Hey, they've put me on a variable tariff so no £60 switching fee! Their loss.
