  • I have used Ovo for the last year or so and have found them to be problem free. I particularly like the fact that you get interest on credit balances (more than my bank account pays) and also the fact that they are based locally.

I have come to the end of my fixed contract and they are no longer the cheapest deal but I am considering staying with them anyway as their rates aren't awful and they have given good service.

Easy to switch in and out - athough accrued credit on final bill is paid back to your bank account without notification so you might miss it.

No real problems, but beware they do not like you to be in debt at any time on your account ... so if you join at the beginning of the winter your monthly payments may be higher for a while
(It's all explained on their website)

Contact is relatively easy, and I never was left hanging around (maybe I just got lucky?). I did get the feeling they that as a small company, they really did want to sort out customers issues (which with bigger suppliers I don't usually find)
One thing to note is that their CS is only currently open Mon-Fri during usual office hours - something to note especially if sending emails and hoping for a quick response

I would certainly use them again (if they offer a cheap tariff for me)
  • Generally good experience; only gripe is that I've opted into a system where they send a statement whenever you put in readings and the statements don't always arrive. But they answer the phone and are friendly and deal with it.
The New Energy Fixed deal is still pretty competitive and has more renewables than most standard tariffs.
  • We have been with OVO for 2 years and about to enter a 3rd. They are based in Cotswolds and do seem to care about the environment - yes, odd, for an Energy Supplier! You can choose to have a Green Energy Plan where energy is 100% renewable energy; 3% interest on your money. Great website that tells you clearly what they are doing.
Not had any problems with billing, getting thru on phone etc and wish all energy companies had a 'personal' feel like this one does! Obviously competitive rates too...
  • I was going to use this company, but alas they only do E Statements (paperless).. which normally would be fine, but I do need paper statements

Have they stopped doing the paper bills for £20 a year then?

The "E statements" are actually just a PDF of what you would get through the post, absolutely no different apart from you have to print it yourself.

I have used them and found them to be fine, just no longer cheapest for me.

Agree with the other poster above about their website, very clear and easy to find information on, unlike some other power companies.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
  • I switched to OVO from EDF in October last year.
The switch went well with no problems whatsoever.
OVO fixed my direct debit, and all went well for October and November when my bill was covered by the direct debit. However, with the cold spells in December and January, I am now in a situation where my account is in debit. All perfectly understandable, but I am sure this debit will be cancelled out by my lower use in the summer months.
OVO, however, have different ideas, and they have emailed me their proposal to raise my direct debit by 65%! I have been in contact with them, and it appears, as some of the other posters point out, they want me to run up a sizable credit.
Shame, I really did hope that they were something different, as their advertising blurb states.

Been with Ovo for most of the last three years with few issues. Customer service is generally good - email response can take a few days but it does arrive and is invariably friendly and helpful. When I first joined there was a "chat" option via the website but that no longer appears to be available. Pity, it was useful but presumably not cost effective.

The issue with winter weighting of direct debits is set out on the website. There is a reluctance to reduce significantly in Spring but with interest on credit balances it hasn't caused me a problem.

A major positive - Ovo are not one of the Big 6, and all the better for it.

Why don't you print them if you need them on paper?
  • I had a similar experience a couple of months ago, but managed to persuade them that the proposed hike was completely unrealistic and that my own calculations were more credible. They have agreed a much lower increase and am still in debit, but will be renewing contract in April when I expect they will review. All a bit annoying to have these proposed increases now that I've installed solar panels!
