  • They have tried several times to increase my DD but I have told them not to do it as I know what I use and I don't need some automated system guessing what it thinks might be used as its usually massively out. I'm always on credit so there is no need for an increase

Not competitive anymore on fixed tariff, having been with them for two years have received a renewal notice that's significantly higher than our actual usage if paying variable rates, i.e, our actual costs are about £1350 according to Ovo, obviously less before current energy increases - now they want £1478 for a 12 month fix - Co Op are coming up allegedly higher cost on this website, but the fixed cost offer is about £100 lower than Ovo are offering and runs until July 2015, also get £30 cashback, so will move to CooP unless Ovo can offer a better deal by mid February.

I moved to them in November 2012, the first thing they did was to increase by DD by 25% due to the winter, when i challenged it i was told this was standard practice & if i wanted to cancel the contract it would cost £60 per fuel. I sucked it up & challenged them each of the further 5 times they attempted to increase the Direct debit throughout the year. The day after my 1 year contract was up I moved supplier. Whilst my DD's are now 30% less 2 months after i've moved, I still have over £400 credit in their coffers, awaiting a final bill before they are prepared to transfer the money. I found their marketing deceitful & underhand, their integrity highly questionable. I'm confident these tactics will be made public soon enough.
  • I was about to move to Ovo from npower (current 1 yr fix ending) but it seems I won't get my 2% cashback from Santander123 on my direct debits because Ovo isn't on their online list of utility providers. However, neither is my water company since it changed name (was Veolia now Affinity) and I still get cashback for them. Does anyone have any further info?
  • I found OVO great when I switched over from Npower. I have a weird meter for my property, I attempted on multiple occasions to get Npower to explain it to me and they never once did. There was a bit of a mess when they took over, but that wasn't anyone's fault really. (2 meter numbers on 1 meter and no one realised). Once it was spotted, they soon took over both readings.

Recently renewed into my 2nd year with OVO. They fully explained my meter and my hours off peak, which Npower couldn't do before. They wanted to increase my direct debit just after I renewed, an additional £20 a month, I just called them and paid the difference to bring my account balance to 0 and they were happy enough not to increase the DD (I make up for my winter usage with extremely low summer usage, but keep my DD the same, so it evens itself out). When signing up or renewing they will request to up your direct debit afterwards. Just say no and pay any outstanding balance in full, keeps them sweet.

Although they take awhile to answer calls and emails, I would, by a mile prefer a friendly, accurate, personal reply than the crap and run around I got from Npower. Highly recommended. I have saved about £24 a month since switching.
  • I'm in the process of switching to OVO, and just received my introductory letter outlining my contract, but was surprised to see that they had increased my direct debit by a staggering 100%!!
Especially as their energy prices are lower than my current supplier.

I'm having serious reservations now... but at least I can back out before the 31st Jan without penalty (cooling off period), but I'll await their response to my email first.

Have you checked to see whether OVO have stopped taking their DD?

    Cashback Search
Type in the name of your suppliers of your water, Council Tax, gas, electricity, TV, mobile or internet. Then choose your supplier from the list that appears to see how much cashback you could get.

My Supplier: Ovo You earn 2% cashback with OVO ENERGY LIMITED

Ovo have just offered me a new 1 year fix (been with them 2 years already) but the daily standing charge has increased by 18.5% - I am really shocked at the size of the increase and can see no justification for such a large one

They are going the same way as the nasty 'big boys' when they were always a decent company before.
  • My stupid neighbour put my house number down instead of his when he tried to switch his electric from whoever he was with to Npower. Every time Ovo sent me an email to say they were sorry I was leaving, I phoned them up and received reassurances that they'd object to the switch occuring. I even wrote an email to which they replied, again promising they would continue to object and I wasn't to worry.

You can imagine my surprise when - three months down the line - I receive a statement which deducts £30 from my account for leaving early. Through phone calls to both them and Npower (my neighbour received a letter - which I opened because it had my address on - which advised him they were about to initiate his DD) I discovered that Ovo had actually let the transfer go ahead and as far as both they and Npower were concerned my electric was now supplied by the latter. Ridiculous really, when you think about all the notes which I know are on both accounts.

I've had a dual fuel account with them for nearly three years and I do really like Ovo - they're quick to pick up the phone, I find them easy to use and the customer service team are really nice - but it's a BIG issue for me that this was allowed to happen and it means my trust in them has decreased to the extent that when my contract is up next I will think about switching. If I get switched back seamlessly - which includes not having to beg for my £30 back - within a good time-frame then I may come back and say they're splendid ...

    Humpf.
