Still hadn't heard from OVO so I called them.

Got through in a under a minute (good sign!) and they confirmed "Winter" ends 6th February. Any applications after that date do not get winter weighting.

They were unable to talk about co-ordinating a switch date to be after my fix with EDF ends, which I'm sure was done by someone here. Apparantly it is my own "risk" to take. They also wouldn't comment on why they hadn't replied to my email or what their target reply time was.

To be honest, they didn't come across particularly interested.

I'm currently switching both mine and my parents energy to Ovo. Can't fault the communication so far and the DD has been set at exactly what I was expecting them to do according to usage.

I switched via energylynx on 16th February and received a letter from Ovo yesterday to say the switch should happen on the 19th March. Previously received an email from them a few days ago confirming our application and telling us to took out for the letter.

I have been able to login to MyOvo and see the progress of our applications which are both still in the cooling off period.

So, so far so good really.

That sounds good. Thanks for replying.
  • Just in the process of switching to Ovo.....
Initial welcome letter confirming switching is in progress received today. Unprofessional over familiar colloquial style does not fill me with confidence - read like it was written by some student in year 9. It requested I check my details and let them know if they are wrong. I checked them and found something wrong. Sadly, as the letter has no phone number, I found letting them know more work than I would have expected. After finding the number online I called and after waiting 10 minutes for someone to answer I gave up. I'll try again on Monday.
Further dissatisfaction is that they have automatically assumed I want paper statements at an additional cost of £20 a year - NO THANK YOU! It would have been nice to have been give the choice up front.
The welcome letter also told me about the wonderful online option, 'My Ovo', and gave me a user id. Hurrying over to the website in the hope I could correct my details and turn off the paper statement option I discovered I needed a password (naturally) but none was available in the letter and the 'forgotten password' option failed to deliver a new password to my email account.
All in all a really poor start to my experience with Ovo.
I guess it can only get better (fingers crossed)

    Which tariff did you choose?

Did you follow the New to My Ovo. Set up a password?

I registered both myself and my parents. Emails with the password arrived instantly at the email address registered when switching. Have you checked your spam folder?
  • Hi Jem 16
Thanks for the reply and suggestions :-)
I selected the 'Cheaper Energy' tariff. Or rather it chose me (I picked it from the comparison in ML's Energy Saving club'
There was no link for 'New to Ovo? Setup a password' option on the web site. I used the web address from Ovo's welcome letter (https:// beta. ovoenergy.com ) - address spaced as I am not permitted to post links yet

I am not sure if all the complaining about increase in DD is valid.

'Unless' your budget does not stretch to paying this extra monthly amount then I don't know of many other places including savings accounts where you get 3% interest on your positive balance.

If you have switched on the basis of annual cost / 12, and are used to paying 12 equal monthly DDs across the year to even out your payments, then suddenly having to pay a considerable amount more for a number of months (without prior warning before switching?) can put a hole in your budget.

My council is doing a (no-obligation) scheme where residents can register interest, input annual consumption, and the energy suppliers bid to supply energy to those residents. I've been sent my results and Ovo is one of the two suppliers.

It seems that they are pretty good at switching, but this 25% or more increase in winter in order to stay in credit is not attractive to me when I know (from weekly meter readings over the last couple of years or so) what my annual consumption will be.

I'll look at the prices properly, but there do seem to be some down sides raised by a number of posters on this thread which you need to consider.

That was the tariff I selected. Letter only mentioned communication preference as Online - Free.

That link seems to be for those already registered. Try this one and you'll see the new to Ovo.

That only happens if you switch heading into winter when you've not had a chance to build up a credit over the summer.

I'm just switching now and the DD has been set at exactly what I was told on the comparison sites and is correct for my annual usage.

E.On did the same as far as DDs were concerned as their plan was for you to have a £0 balance in Spring.
  • The beta site is still undergoing testing it probably for some reason doesn't have the link available to sign in as a new user or it's hidden somewhere in error
