Switch will take four to six weeks is what they say .
That presumably takes into account the extra week or so it takes the Cheap Energy Club to inform the supplier, because Ofgem says it should take between 3 and 5 weeks ;)

Switch now and pay no EDF exit fees . Switch later and you may end up on EDF standard tariff until the switch goes through . Plus nothing to stop Ovo raising prices if you wait .
Its a calculated gamble on my part to switch six weeks before EDF end at a fixed price to Ovo .
I'm leaving my application to switch for another week or two - that will enable me to take advantage of the lower EDF fixed prices for as long as possible ... and see if anyone else drops their prices in the meantime due to the lower wholesale costs currently. :)

If my switch does end up being delayed past the current fixed period, I'll change my EDF tariff online (end of next month) to the cheapest EDF one available - it should happen immediately and there are cheaper options than their standard tariff (so much for this government's promise to ensure everyone is on the cheapest tariff; they can't even ensure that with the existing supplier) ... and they all have no early exit charges, so I might take a fixed tariff for another year/18 months with EDF only for another supplier to switch me say a week later :)

I'd like to know that I can talk to someone at OVO if needed, especially at the start or a switch from EDF, and unsure whether to go for online only or online and phone. Any advice from people who have OVO accounts? Can you still talk to them if there's an issue?

Believe it or not I have just changed from EDF to Ovo despite getting this quote via their own website. It also won't reset itself:

We estimate your annual bill will be £16805
That's just £1029 more than your current providerThis appears to be because they think my annual gas consumption is rather high.

But Martins' Energy Club is bringing them in 2nd place after FU!

EDF June 2015 prices for me are Gas...£45 and Electric...£48 per month. An increase of £29 per month.

For those peeps interested my annual gas consumption is 12079 kwh and annual electric consumption is 3897 kwh.

If anyone would care to plug those details in it could be interesting.

It's easy on OVO's site to enter your annual kWh usage as £ per year rather than kWh, as it defaults to £. It does warn you your usage looks high, but lets you continue.
You can change them with the "Tweak your details" button on the quote.
Been there, done that! :)

• Before the end of my cooling off period, to transfer to them, I called to ask some questions about the direct debit and decided to cancel the transfer. 15 days later I got a letter stating that in 2 days time the transfer will go ahead. I called and told them I had cancelled, and I gave the date, time of cancellation and name of person I spoke to. The man confirmed that yes, it was written in my notes I had cancelled. The person told me it was an automatic generated letter, and I should ignore it. I asked well how come I got a letter from my old supplier as well, saying sorry you leaving. He couldn't give an answer. I called my old supplier, who checked the national data register and confirmed that my electric was still with them, but that ovo had taken over my gas. I told them I cancelled and DONT want to transfer. They said there was nothing I could do, as there was only two days left till the transfer. I called ovo back and and was left waiting 18 min to make a complaint. The man said he would ask someone to call me back so I didn't have to wait so long, and NOONE called. I called the bank and found out that a dd had been set up to ovo. I then sent ovo an email......and I have not had a reply to that either.

I was left hanging on for 18 min today and didn't get to make my complaint, as in I had cancelled and didn't want to transfer. I was told someone would call me back and no one did, and no one has answered my email either.
• Im in the process of switching from EDF. Originally applied 19/01 and finally submitted meter readings a month later. However they havent agreed gas meter readings with EDF The website appears to be changing and some parts say one thing about my account some another.

I rang up to discuss with OVO and after a 10 min wait was told to wait until the end of March when hopefully everything will be sorted. The CS guy I spoke to couldnt tell me which meter reading they were arguing about. Ive decided not to pay my final bill from EDF as it is estimated. Ive contacted them and said I would wait for a final actual bill which I think is fair enough.

I have hated being with EDF as it was impossible to put in online meter readings without your direct debit being upped so only put them in when they asked for them.

Hopefully the online meter reading facility will make managing the account easier. Im also thinking about putting extra in as they give 3% interest on any in credit balances.

EDF reviews your DD payment about every 3-6 months (assuming they have got a proper reading)

If the DD amount is changed, a quick call to EDF will usually get it reversed (assuming such reversal is reasonable)

I don't know what the argument is over, and if neither OVO nor EDF can tell you, then give the reading you gave to Ovo to EDF too and tell them to use that to produce an accurate bill for you :)

My experience with Ovo is that they were quick to increase your DD payment if they thought you were paying too little, but slow to decrease it if you were overpaying. Having said that they do pay 3% p.a. "interest" on credit balances.
As your credit balance is unlikely to be more than about £100 at any time after re-billing (else they probably will reduce your payment) that equates to no more than about 25p a month.

If you pay in extra just to try and obtain 3% interest on it, they will probably reject/return the payment as not due.
You'd be better off getting the TSB account next week as that promises to pay 5% interest (before tax, which probably won't be much as the budget changed how interest will be taxed, removing the 10% rate ... and pointing out that unlike the other party, that did not mean charging 20% instead ;))

I was with Ovo for 12 months and that was long enough. Very good at increasing the monthly dd but very slow on refunds. I am now with N Power on a fix deal. Ok a few issues but I am in control and provided I give them readings the bill is always in line with what I was expecting.

Just because a company like Ovo is small it certainly does not mean it is any better than the big ones.

Did you not supply Ovo with regular readings when you were with them?

I did it online at the end of every month and always got a bill based on those readings :)
• I've just renewed my contract with them until June 2016 thought it was the best bet given how the energy market is at the moment
