delivered too many TVs

Technically honesty isn't the best policy as if he had said nothing he would have kept an extra tv (which is probably worth more than 15% off their next purchase).
Still honesty is the correct moral approach!
But then OP would also have the risk of JL finding out the mistake and chasing him for the value of the 2nd tv.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
JL delivering in a U-Drive van? Something doesn't sound right here."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I've frequently seen couriers using hire vans. Presumably one or more of theirs is off the road for some reason.0 -

JL could have, within a set period of time, come looking for the money or the telly as it was delivered incorrectly and then where would the OP have been if couldnt afford a second one?
So, honesty was indeed the best policy.
No it wasn't because on contacting John Lewis they stated that they had no record of the extra TV being at the Op's house. Therefore they would never have collected the TV or asked for payment.
If the OP had been dishonest they would have got a free second TV. By being honest they have got 15% off their next order.
From a financial point of view unless they are going to spend a very large sum of money on their next order, they would have been financially better off in not letting John Lewis know.
I'm not saying the OP is wrong in contacting John Lewis. I am simply stating that being honest has not worked out financially better than doing nothing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yes but as the OP discovered this wasn't a risk as they had no record of the second TV.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
But the OP wouldn't have known this without contacting JL so, as far as they would have known, there would have be possibility.Yes but as the OP discovered this wasn't a risk as they had no record of the second TV.
That said, I think the correct outcome was reached, with everyone happy.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -

Just because someone in a call centre cant find any record of it, doesnt mean it doesnt/wont exist (after all, somethings only really missing if you're looking for it). Especially since the OP would also know they signed for both tvs and in todays day and age, its a certainty the tvs will have been scanned probably at least half a dozen times as going out for delivery to OP.You keep using that word. I work in this industry. If its not on the csa's screen then its lost. The cics screens at John Lewis access the main database. If there is no data on that there is no data for the 2nd tv. The csa's have the most uptodate information available to John Lewis as without it they can't do their job.
John Lewis are not going to launch a comprehensive search of all their courier events to track down where one missing tv went. A small company might. A big company won't. It's too difficult with such a large number of orders. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
In this situation the chances are they accidentally did a duplicate reorder under the same order number. This would make it impossible for John Lewis to spot it was actually 2 orders not 1. The order events of the second delivery would overwrite the original delivery (as they have the same data identifier). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It is common in distribution centres to have an ICQA team who's primary purpose is to track down missing items. And we are talking about the biggest companies here, not small companies. Small companies dont have the resources to have a team dedicated to it.
Its good for share prices if they can account for their inventory
