Just tell me... why do you think there are age categories for these games if it's not to act as a warning of the content (and appropriate age of user).

    Precisely.

So Mr Cow all French people are irresponsible parents in your eyes.

Not all French people are parents.

  • In my opinion OP you are bringing up a cracking little boy

My other opinion might not go down to well here but it’s just an opinion

Bullies are scum, your lad needs to hit them hard and hit them first. One on one so they don’t have their mates to back them up, it’s the only way they will learn. Your son doesn’t have to become a thug himself he just needs to show them he won’t stand for their actions and that if they bully him again they will get a beating.

Or maybe he'll just get the !!!! kicked out of him and end up with a longer stay in hospital this time? Seriously? What planet?

Have a look at these 'top 10' violent video games... (be patient as there is an advert first):

    http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/k8au1l/gears-of-war-2-top-10-most-violent-games-

I only got as far as #8 (so goodness knows what numbers 7 - 1 hold in store) and had already seen a man cut in half with a sword (lots of blood), a man beating up a woman and a man knocking another to the ground onto his face and then jumping on his spine.

Do you think this is appropriate viewing for an 11yo?

Oh gosh, my son is only 8, some of his friends play CoD (with parents consent) and watch 18 films as well as have free rein on Internet on their iPod touches and family laptops.

Like all of us we do our best to bring him up as a well rounded young man, but with everything that is out there, I think it's naive to think that we can protect them from everything we don't want them to see. All I can do is educate my son walk away from a situation or to talk to me if something has happened he doesn't like or feel comfortable with.

I wish every parent luck, its a minefield and I know I've got the really hard work to come!!

Bear in mind COD is the top selling game:) and Keith Lemon is one of the big stars so there must be quite a lot of badly brought up children

You write the above as if this is something to be proud of.

To be blunt there are many really messed up kids out there, going through the school system. They have all manner of emotional problems. Part of the reason for this is having had inadequate parenting.

It is naive beyond belief not to consider that allowing them to view xrated games, films, !!!!!! etc would not have a negative effect. How can that be any good for an 11 year old?

You have suddenly gone very quiet on here after being so vocal in your views!

Messed up kids like the OP's who have been brought up to think it is ok to swear at his parent when he is told to do something. He's 12 just now ,dread to think what relationship he will have with his parent when he is 16

Why would I be proud , I gave a fact, something that seems to be missing from this thread

I think some people seriously worry far too much over games. my brother has been playing games since he was about 11/12, including *gasp* GTA. He's 16 now and still plays 18 rates games but he's a model pupil, intelligent, popular and has his head screwed on. He hasn't turned into
some brainless axe murderer simply because he played on games.

And in regards to bullying, i was bullied in school, relentlessly so for at least 3 years. I never smacked them one because i a)didn't fancy having the !!!! beaten out of me (which is what would have happened) and b) didn't want to to sink to their level and get in trouble. Violence rarely solves anything

Is that your best shot? What a pathetic come back.

You still haven't answered my question...

WHY do YOU think there are age categories on video games if you continue to maintain that they are not there to protect younger users from being exposed to inappropriate material?

Marisco, You make very dangerous sweeping statement. and so does the OP. Can you point me to the facts that say children who play computer games are bullies.

Bear in mind COD is the top selling game:) and Keith Lemon is one of the big stars so there must be quite a lot of badly brought up children

    Yes sadly there are.
There are lots of violent, foul mouthed children in the country & sadly they haven't been taught any better.
Even sadder is the fact they will have children & drag them up the same way.
