My friend, you are contradicting yourself all the way. To start with, your post is a classic, text book example of a disclaimer: I don't hate, but.. followed by a tirade of negative opinions.
Not to mention that you do go on and, so you are very clearly bothered by this. No hard feelings :)

I beg your pardon? I think you missed out the word "because".
I said I do hate Apple ... BUT not because I am a fanboi for the competition. I hate them entirely independantly.

Perhaps you should learn to read and understand English properly before misquoting and getting it wrong.
    No hard feelings :)

If this is what you actually meant, then I'm sorry for getting it wrong. English is my third language and I only have been learning it for a little while. Still don't get all the grammatical nuances :)

Back to the discussion, could someone answer my question? Why it bothers people that, in their opinion, Apple products are overpriced? I could understand the point if it was about food or utilities or any other necessary product. But consumer electronics? Really?

    Seriously?
It's supply and demand ... basic economics 101.

Apple will charge what the market will bear ... which is unfortunately rather a lot simply because everyone wants their stuff. It doesn't mean it's worth it for one second.

Also ... people will foolishly pay a premium for "perceived" value and quality, be it real or not ... clever marketing and hype indeed. Modern consumer electronic goods aren't worth the materials they're made of because they're out of date and completely useless in no time (comparatively speaking)

What if Apple had sold a tenth of the devices that they did last year ... how much would they be in the shops for now?

Yes this is all true but it doesn't answer my question. Why does it bother people? There are other companies (in various sectors) that do similar thing, yet it is Apple that polarizes the society so much. Why?

    No worries :)
  • It bothers me because there are many people out there that are so desperate for an iDevice, who simply can't afford it, that they will forgo basic essentials like food and clothes (even for their kids) just so they can have the lastest shiny "MUST HAVE" Apple device.
They'll take out pay day loans, go into debt ... just for a stupid phone!

And the phone isn't all that either ... and once you have one, you're locked in and must continue to pay premium prices for everything associated with it.

If you CAN afford it ... fine ... burn your money! ... but it's the effect they're having on those who can't.

They're no worse than huge screen TVs and Sky ... but even so.

When we are on our death bed, inhaling the last few gasps of air, the fond memories of unwrapping an iphone for the first time, and stroking it's tactile surface, and sitting in amazement at the wonders of syncing itunes to the fridge and toilet roll holder, and beaming video to the garden shed are unlikely to play a part in most peoples thoughts.

it's a expensive and overpriced phone, handy to have, but not essential, with a camera, handy to have, not essential, with some apps, handy to have, but not essential, there will be a new one out next year, and the year after, with a minor upgrade of camera, and some silly wow/woop feature of spurious value, not essential.

I suspect some people may end up with long term mental health damage as a result of the constant addiction to tech/media/social networking at the expense of real life. Buying an lp, getting photo's back from the lab, watching a film at the cinema, phoning a friend, was once special, something to look forward to. Nowadays there is a complete media overload available every waking hour.

The mobile phone adddiction has already led to a generation of debt.

Someone will eventually knock them off their perch with a better cheaper product, Samsung is biting at their heels right now.

    In reply to my:
I'm very close to reporting this post as trolling!

    Just my opinion.

The trolling would be in your mind then, and I don't think much of your considered "opinion".

I posted their Q1 earnings exactly as they released them, and without any sort of pro or con leaning to the facts.

My only personal comment reflects my amazement that they sold so many iPhone 5's considering all the "flop" stories.

The only way you might see a troll is if you look in a mirror.

Surely, if you don't want to debate Apple you stay out of Apple threads?

Yes you posted the earnings, but don't you think the thread title
The Apple haters aren't going to be happy! is inflammatory.

Resorting to ad - hominem arguments is typical of trolling behaviour and does nothing to further your side of the debate.

For the record, I think that Apple products are nice eye candy and have good user interfaces ... but they are overpriced. The worst flaw of all is that you must have iTunes to use an Apple device
