Let's face it if apple came to the TV market they'd do what they are famous for, regurgitate old ideas pretend they created them then sue all the established brand because they own rounded rectangles!0

Not really. Extremely unlikely anything will happen to Apple, but the way the world economy is and other factors, they could go belly up. Or if the networks suffered a catastrophic failure, then it causes major problems. All your eggs in one basket and all that.
but as you say, highly unlikely, plus all the stuff that actually matters to me (photos, videos etc) is stored on a external drive that is formatted to work on PC and mac0 -
Even if apple go tits up the phone itself wont stop working, your macbook is still going to work, your ipad wont just cease working. Just beyond the actual life of the product, you wont be able to buy apple products anymore.
iOS is exclusively used by apple, and yes android is used by many manufacturers, but they all tweak things their own way. Hence the issue of cross android versions because one manufacturer decides they don't want to re-tweak their own OS version for older phones, happy to carry on doing it for newer phones. If you go down the android route, you are still as limited to android as your are if you go down the iOS route. You buy for android, it only works for android, you buy for iOS and it only works on iOS.
You do pay more for apple, of course. But then you pay more for a samsung phone compared with a Huawei phone, or a branded vodafone phone, or etc etc. so you have that very bottom cheap phone that people are happy with, then you have a dearer phone that maybe does the same as the cheapy bottom phone, but people choose to buy that one instead, then you have another phone above it, and then an iphone thrown in there too. People buy what they want, despite the price. Besides which, most don't buy outright their iphone, they go through 24+ month contacts so the cost is spread over months, therefore they never see the "true" cost of an iphone, but wait, that's the same with any of the latest models, they're "cheap" through contracts.*
People have choice, and people will make that choice in whatever they buy. I went from an HTC desire HD to an iphone 4S and I'm happy. It wasn't hard, it was pretty easy, and I expect the next phone to be the same, easy to switch over between the two. I have apps bought on both OS's but that's fine. I doubt my next phone will be an iphone, don't like the look of the 5 (length vs width), and I'm guessing it'll only be the same for future phones.
*I know you pay more through contracted superphones, and you probably know that, but enough people see it as a way to get phone "credit" to buy their phone that way that it's how it generally works.0 -
Hmm...
An interesting post. You call Apple users sheep but there are far more Android phones out there, mine included, so I'd say the term sheep applies more to the rest of us. About 70% of mobiles are Android while about 15% are Apple
You then go on to say that iPhones are simple and just work but they're overpriced.
Most of my friends are non techies and believe me they are more than happy to pay for simple and just works. I used to have an iPhone, I swapped for a Samsung Galaxy S2 because I wanted to try Android for a change. I really like my Samsung but I have no problem with Apple.
I don't understand why people waste so much energy hating Apple or Microsoft or any other company. What makes you hate them so much?
People choose the best product they can get for the money they have available or because it fills some other personal criteria which may be as simple as 'because my mate has one'. It doesn't make it a wrong choice.
I don't actually own/use a smartphone myself because as a software developer I have more than enough "computer time" in my life so it's nice to escape from them. As such it's not like I am in the "Apple hater camp" because I prefer the competition, but I still despise them for the way they dictate what you can & can't do on your own device.
I hate the fact that you can't buy it as a phone and use it out of the box. Oh no, you MUST install itunes and register accounts etc etc - and I wholly object to this. I want to use it as a phone, and not infiltrate my PC. If it needs to connect to the internet then by all means use my router, but I don't want any Apple crap on my computer - I simply don't trust it. I've read about how iTunes is capturing all sorts of data from the phone when you connect it up
I don't like that all applications need to be regulated, controlled and conform to the Apple "way"/"brand". And yet despite this, all manner of malware still gets through and people are receiving ridiculous phone bills and having their personal data "stolen" by simply playing silly games.
It's undeniably massively overpriced in every respect.
It's just too restrictive in so many ways, and I could go on, and on, but can't be bothered. That's just a couple of the reasons why I hate Apple.0 -
Apple fiscal Q1 figures are out, and they are quite impressive considering the world is in recession.
Apple have announced $54.5 billion revenue, with $13.1 billion profit for the quarter.
They have sold 75 million iOS devices, including 47.8 million iPhones and 22 million iPads.
Apple's cash reserves increased to $131 billion.
47 million iPhones? Hardly the flop many seemed to think when the i5 came out (of course the figure is all iPhones, but still impressive, I would speculate the majority are i5).

I'm very close to reporting this post as trolling!
Just my opinion.

probably the best post I've seen regarding apple.....
wholehartedly agree, it's what I've always thought but have never been bothered to actually write in case it sparked another fanboy v rest of the world debate...but then this thread is already......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Dave,
I see your point, but this subject sort of lends itself to Trolling, in that it is a heated subject and people are protective of their beliefs.
Hope you don't report - Some good arguments being debated here.
Thanks,

The trolling would be in your mind then, and I don't think much of your considered "opinion".
I posted their Q1 earnings exactly as they released them, and without any sort of pro or con leaning to the facts.
My only personal comment reflects my amazement that they sold so many iPhone 5's considering all the "flop" stories.
The only way you might see a troll is if you look in a mirror.
Surely, if you don't want to debate Apple you stay out of Apple threads?====0 -

My friend, you are contradicting yourself all the way. To start with, your post is a classic, text book example of a disclaimer: I don't hate, but.. followed by a tirade of negative opinions.
Not to mention that you do go on and, so you are very clearly bothered by this. No hard feelings
Back to the discussion, could someone answer my question? Why it bothers people that, in their opinion, Apple products are overpriced? I could understand the point if it was about food or utilities or any other necessary product. But consumer electronics? Really?0 -
I think mostly they are over priced because there is no direct comparison out there price wise/OS wise (do not mean android, I mean running iOS). They seem to wipe out any new sales of the old phones, once a new phone comes out. (albeit it leaving one or two options for sale on their site, limited, ie they take away any choice of size) and there it is, it's not expandable, so you need to try and prepare ahead of what you would use it for.
But on that front what is harked is ease of use, can use it out of the box (once you're connected to itunes etc!) and that it's meant to be good components with that image of someone caring when they make it. Whilst I know that's utter junk, and the recent factory conditions coming to light regarding the components...
Frankly it's priced right with people still buying it. It's obviously not too expensive, otherwise people would say nuh uh, no way. Naturally it could easily be cheaper too! But then any electronical item could be cheaper. Could a cheaper made electronical item last as long? Dunno, maybe that's the thought. Cost more, therefore it should last longer, be more robust. HOWEVER a fair chunk of the buyers never seem to find that out, because a new one comes out every year, and people want to be the latest phone user (apple, or whatever brand of phone they like) so they sell on, give back, and upgrade.
I have no objections to last seasons model, but then I don't care about eating reduced food, or wearing charity shop clothing/shoes, and I don't need to have a name on what I wear to show "I'm in"
But I do want a phone that I can use, and like to use. Gone from a Orange San Fran (re-rom'd) to a HTC and though wow! What was I missing, and even from my htc to iphone I like the change, and difference it felt. Equally others will say the reverse.
Frankly for me, it's not so much price, more that I want to like what I use. If I get frustrated with it, why would I bother? I tried a Xoom wifi from Motorola, which was expandable, which was a decent tablet compared to the ipad 2 at that point, but i kept being pulled back to the ipad. It just worked for me, I had numerous issues including slow screen response, and just not having as nice a feel in my hands for it. And even now, going "backwards" to an ipad mini, I like the feel of it, I love the screen size for me. I do wish I could have animated fish on it like my brothers tablet, but I can live with out that, I've played with his one, and I still prefer mine. Doesn't mean my next tablet/phone would be apple though. Things are getting better for everyone, no matter which maker/OS is in the lead.
