but all my stuff is on iTunes so i dont need any other format. All my photos sit in Aperture, and videos i have made and edited in iMovie, so i dont need other formats.
Just a question however, do the others link to itunes so you can rent films through them etc?

That's the point - You have sold your soul to Apple - they have got you forever.
Android users have a choice of manufacturers and can cut their costs considerably.

Apple even charge you to upload (Non -itunes Purchased) music to their iCloud - Google Play Music is completely FREE regardless of where the music comes from.

There is a way, but with Apple & DRM they make is extremely difficult to do so. I know your going to come back with, I buy or rent all my films via iTunes. Apple are son inflexible and want to tie you into there products and services only. Which is fine if you like to wear blinkers.

great excellent, so can "airplay" from a phone, i presume from a tablet too, can you insist on what you are playing be played on your pc too? like you have an audiobook on in the car, you arrive home and want to carry on listening in your office room, does it do the same to pc?
Does your phone also sync over the network?
does the £50 mirroring thing work with your PC screen as well as the phone and tablet?

If so then great, the competition is good for fans of all companies, but I had no idea of this stuff, Apple makes no secret of it. I bought my first mac 5 years ago, it still works today (apart from the disc drive). the 4 yr old is what i am typing on now. it just works out the box, but in most cases works for a long time. Ive never had an issue with an iphone personally, but i do upgrade every two years. I guess if I lost everything somehow, and had to start again, I would look at the alternatives, but now I have Apple stuff, why would i go and spend more money in replacing it with other things?

I would appeal against being an "apple fanboy" as I've been accused of as i am not against the competition, I'm all for it and it's success as it means every company has to get better and better which is better for us as consumers.
Yes, DLNA works on PCs too (also works with various smart audio systems/DVD players) so you can stream to them. It's not as transparent or seamless as Airplay (I do have an Apple TV @ ipad2) .. Yes, Android syncs over wifi (When I got my new phone, all my contacts and apps from my old phone magically installed themselves)

The rule of thumb is: Anything that can be done on an Apple device can be done on Android/PC platforms - it just might be a little bit more difficult. The 'little bit more difficult' is usually the reason stick people stick with Apple - but it does tend to come with a hefty markup.

Can your phone take photos at the same time it's videoing? Can you transmit/receive files from any bluetooth device? Can you watch a video AT THE SAME TIME as web browsing? Does your phone warn you how long it's going to take to drive to your next appointment (Thanks Google Now!). Can it show widgets on it's home screen?

I use to administer Mac laptops.. I use to code on them too a bit. I don't mind OS X; heck I loved having Unix at my fingertips. iOS is great for simple use. It falls on its face for 'power-use'. Since most people don't need 'power-use', this doesn't bother a lot of people

Suggesting it is 'better' is a bit like suggesting an automatic car is better than a manual gears car. I like the ease of driving an automatic; others would see it as simplistic and miss the ability to change gears on their own...

The same can be said of your Samsung TV but it's clearly a price you are happy to pay while having a go at other people for doing the same with Apple.

    It makes no sense.
Apple are well know for having a considerably higher markup than other manufacturers. To be honest, my 42 " LED Samsung TV cost under £500 .. ironically less than an iPhone 5!

If Apple ever come to retail a TV, do you honestly think it will cost less than £800-1000 ?

I can screenshot videos, the bluetooth stuff is something lacking, but i dont really send/receive files like that anyway (maybe ive had to learn to live like that) but the bluetooth with my car works great. i am not sure i have the attention span to watch videos and browse at the same time, but no i can't. the iphone 5 screen is narrower than the top spec androids so i dont think you'd want to. widgets, not sure what id use them for. You could get widgets on OSX as you know, but i never bothered...

Apple sell their monitor for £800, a full working TV will be £1500+ in my guess...

Clearly you and 404 are missing the point, it's the price's that are disliked, not the products. Apple make some decent products, but the prices do not reflect the same.

Doesn't matter, debate is still pointless. Want it? Buy it, don't want it? Don't buy it. End of. Its free market they can put whatever price they want. If it bothers anyone complain to them. When your at it, complain to Rolls Royce, Bang & Olufsen, Prada and every other producer of overpriced goods. Jeez.

but then from a business position, if it means i remain investing in them, its a great idea.

I think the key thing is the choice factor here, I am not a consumer who walked through the Bullring and saw the big shiny shopfront, got drew in and remortgaged my parents house to buy stuff.
I do understand your frustration at those who buy it because it's shiny, and then moan about being locked in.

But that's just one model, Samsung also sell one for £1600 so saying Apple are bad because they're expensive doesn't stand up.

The only real difference is that Samsung build TVs for every level of the market while Apple only don't. I really don't see any reason to hate them because of that.

If people are prepared to pay Apple, or anyone else's for that matter, price then why hate the company rather than the people who make it possible for Apple to be so successful.

A company isn't a public service, it exists to make profit for the people who own it. If people are paying the price set by the company then the price is clearly OK. Why should they sell for less.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.

Not really. Extremely unlikely anything will happen to Apple, but the way the world economy is and other factors, they could go belly up. Or if the networks suffered a catastrophic failure, then it causes major problems. All your eggs in one basket and all that.

I don't hate Apple at all - i have an Apple TV, iPad2 and an iPod Classic. They make robust equipment and solid software. BUT.. they're usually about 30% more expensive. For some reason, the owners of the products are frequently manically obsessive about the company. Just bought my bits because they were 'best of breed' at the time I wanted them
