    I just rung Lloyds.

Advisor said it was supposed to be working again at 4.30pm - it still isn't though. She had no idea when it would work again. Maybe later today was the best she could say!

This just popped up on my Natwest online banking:

Please be aware that Lloyds Banking Group are currently experiencing technical issues with their faster payments systems. This means that any payments you are due to make to customers of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland will not have been processed. These payments will either not be debited as expected or show as a return payment to your account.

Any payments due to you from a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland customer will also not have been received and therefore will not show as credited to your account.

Customers are advised to not re-submit any payments or send any new payments to customers of these banks until further notice. We are working with Lloyds to help them resolve this situation as soon as possible.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Sent test payments for 1p (etc) from Santander to Lloyds and Halifax at 6.10pm. The payments arrived immediately so that part of the system is now working.

But outgoing payments (as others have noted) are put into 'next working day' by both Lloyds and by Halifax. I have set up a small payment to leave Lloyds (this amount now shows as 'pending' under the 'make a payment' dropdown list)

My request for a FP from First Direct this morning was refused but said it will be processed the next day(tomorrow) but just checked LTSB account and the amount has arrived. LTSB at this moment still declining a payment to Santander by FP.

Interesting that Lloyds haven't made any kind of statement, not even on their internet banking page about there currently being a problem, presumably hoping they can fix it before anyone causes a fuss. Not even a mention of it on twitter so I tweeted them about it and got this not terribly helpful reply:

Sorry; we're currently investigating a fault with Faster Payments & hope to resolve this as quickly as possible

At least RBS were upfront when they had their problems. LBG don't seem to give a monkey's

RBS had a complete meltdown, and it did take them several days before they admitted to the gravity of the issue.

There is presently no indication that the LBG issue is any more than a hickup that can happen whenever humans are involved. There has been no default whatsoever to committed service levels, or legal obligations as yet. All we have seen is a few hours delay, and that bank customers had inflated expectations about what exactly "Faster Payments" means.

Having said all this, it's a bit disconcerting that "our" banks (i.e. the ones we as taxpayers own) are the ones that c*ck it up repeatedly.

A regular automated Faster Payment from my Santander account to a Lloyds account has been returned.
21/01/2013 RETURN FASTER PAYMENTS CREDIT FROM...
21/01/2013 STANDING ORDER VIA FASTER PAYMENT TO...

Hmmm. The standing order payment failed, so I pushed a manual one through this morning.

At about 4.30pm Santander attempted to send the standing order again, which appears to have been successful:
    21/01/2013 RETRY FASTER PAYMENT TO...
21/01/2013 BILL PAYMENT VIA FASTER PAYMENT TO...
21/01/2013 RETURN FASTER PAYMENTS CREDIT FROM...
21/01/2013 STANDING ORDER VIA FASTER PAYMENT TO...

  • Anyone know if it is sorted yet? :-)
