Back on Monday. Carry on without me.
Safe journey and I bet your dad's garden looks great even now! You could pinch a bit of his frogs spawn0 -
Just managed to get back into this website - computer problems yet again!!
So what have I been doing? Not a lot really - just too cold for me to be outside at the moment. I have grown absolutely loads of moss though - on my north-east facing patio - despite watering it over with some kind of moss inhibitor last autumn - think I must have got hold of the wrong container and used fertilizer instead!
My seed compost is outside (buried under snow last week) and my seeds are inside so I am going to have to brave the cold and somehow get the compost as far as my utility room - easier said than done as I am no weight lifter and wait for it to warm up a bit before I can use it. But I will also have to go and delve around in the freezing cold garage to find the pots to sow all these seeds in. Is it too late to sow tomato seeds?
Had to have lots of teeth out a couple of years ago after several close encounters with the pavement and now have a top denture so can`t eat anything salady. Pity about that as salad crops are so easy to grow. Still got lots of seeds tucked away in the fridge from last year so don`t need to buy more - just hope that the weather will be a bit kinder to me this year.
I did get lucky with tomatoes though and have still got loads of beans, gooseberries and blackberries in the freezer.
Oh, I do so want a 10ft by 30ft greenhouse!! I think it would take up half the garden and would cost quite a bit I suspect - I would have to live another 50 years for it to pay for itself - don`t think that is likely to happen as I am nearly 80 as it is!0 -
I sowed my tomato seeds on 8th April last year, I will probably need to wait and do the same this year, it's so cold here in the frozen north.
I am an avid reader of the thread, in fact, it's my 3rd year reading, so I will try and contribute a bit more this year, if the weather warms up.
I have only got as far as potting up some strawberry runners as they would have died otherwise. They are in my shed just now, it's not a good idea to have them right outside methinks.
I have not even been to my allotment, it will be July before I get there at this rate lol.:rotfl:0 -
newsflash - I might, just might, plant some seeds this weekend. That's assuming I can get to the shed through the snowdrifts.0

lol Vics I don't blame you wanting to get started my fingers are beyond itchy..
When I pruned my jostaberry and gooseberries this year I decided to stick the offcuts in a morrisons bucket..3 x josta and 5 x gooseberries and they have all taken  god only knows where they will go I want to try a couple of standard goosegogs but think the rest may have to be donated elsewhere..Annie if you want any you're more than welcome I have the you know what ready for you too whenever you want it
Sun has been out here most of the day but had too much to get done indoors before I start on the gardening!0 -
I have today sown, Runner beans, tomato's,Peppers and some flower seeds. They are all in my greenhouse in seed trays and pots. Also removed the bubble wrap from said greenhouse, I hope I haven't been to eager although we haven't frost forecast for tonight.
I have to move my strawberries to their new bed asap.
I hope everyone is keeping warm, and the snow isn't too badTreat other's how you like to be treated.

Don't you think the runner beans are a bit early? Even in the greenhouse the recomended earliest is the middle to late April. And the tomatoes and chillies will need some heat.0

Well I still h agent done much as its been snowing on and off all week again but I did get out yesterday and scrubbed my greenhouse thoroughly. I also did a sulphur candle as I had red spider mite in there last year so I hope I've got rid of the problem for this year. The only other thing I did was prune my black currant-it's now in its third year and has lots of buds on it so I'm hopeful for a decent harvest from it this year. The raspberries have started sprouting again but my blueberries don't look very good. I potted them into larger pots last year and hardly got any berries off them but put it down to transplant shock but maybe not0
