I need to find space for strawberries. But my garden's full. Any ideas? :undecidedIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Hubby didn't like the idea of me planting spuds in buckets and keeping them in the hallway till it warms up, something to do with the hall only being 30" wide and walking past without kicking them over
So they'll have to chit a bit longer till the snows gone.
Run out of space to sow anything else as toms need pri*king out next few days. I need a bigger home and garden.0 -

Dig another bed or you've got room for tubs, the tubs can then be moved after fruiting if taking up a prime spot.0 -
sorry dont know how to "quote"!;)
but strawberrys....i have heard , and am going to try it myself, is to get some plastic guttering and put it along the side of the green house but inside :rotfl:...and put the strawberrys in that so they trail over the edge, its ment to work realy well,
if space allowes is there any reason why i cant put a few spuds in the green house ground, thought they might come on a little quicker?0 -

Hello
I've been lurking on this ( and the last) thread and think it's time to delurk and join in (if that's ok?).
We tried to grow some veg last year and it was a total washout - did well with broad and runner beans (still eating these from the freezer), but everything else just rotted in the ground. So disappointing.
So we are trying again this year. In the garden we have a 6x8 greenhouse that we recently put up - hoping to get some tomatoes grown in here, and we have a couple of small raised beds in the garden - we also have a small field a little way from the house that we don't use for anything so we are going to get a few beds dug there over the next few weeks. Not too sure how good this will be as we dont have access to water there, will have to try to find ways of collecting rainwater over there.
Hoping for a little less rain this summer!0 -

Oh, I do like it when new people delurk.
Welcome. Don't worry about last year, I've yet to meet the gardener that viewed it as any sort of success. This year will be sunny, and all will be wonderful. :beer:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I don't see why not, but personally I wouldn't. My reasoning being that you don't really want to grow things in the same place two years running. Maybe potatoes haven't been grown there before, but even so you wouldn't be able to repeat next year without digging out all the soil and replacing it.
The second reason is blight. If your spuds get it, then your tomatoes will too. If your spuds are outside, your inside tomatoes stand a chance of escaping it.
Don't forget, I'm no expert. Other people's opinions may differ. And they're probably right. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I'm not digging up any more lawn. My garden is finished.
I've got 4 decent sized beds, which should allow for a decent rotation system. Well, it might if I didn't keep sticking brassicas in all over the place.I could dig one more bed, but I'm not going to. I think I need a containery-type solution.
I'm also getting a bit fed up of all the recycling tubs I've been using. They served a purpose at first, but nothing does as well in tubs as it does in the ground. Plus, they take up a lot of patio space and get in the way.
I'll keep a few, for radishes, carrots and a few parsnips, perhaps some spring onions, and maybe starting some leeks, but that's all. Probably.
I might have to build a strawberry container from reclaimed wood. Something like this. But for a cost of 0p. :money:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
