I'm leaning towards the following this year:
strawberries (already in)
quince tree (although don't think it will fruit this year)
loganberry (already in)
some other fruit bush that I've got, but I don't know what it is
peppers - need to grow another one because I've killed Percy
aubergine - overwintered, randomly
tomatoes
sugar snap peas
salad leaves
squash
leeks
I'm in limbo slightly because OH has promised to rebuild some walls in the garden, so I might rely on pots this year instead.
No doubt I'll manage to grow spuds too, even if I don't plant them.0 -
are aubergines hard to grow? my OH loves mousaka
but they are so expensive,
ive also aquired 1 gooseberry bush,4 raspderry canes, i do have some fruit trees that went in 3 yrs ago befor i got sick, they are started to fruit last year
oh yes i got a packet of mixed salad / lettices
going out to brave the rain for photos .......:rotfl:0 -

I'll let you know at the end of the year - this will be my first bash.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

If we were to do that, we'd need to grow from the same batch of seeds, to ensure an equal footing.
But we haven't done that, so let's pretend we did and do it anyway.
Your mature, overwintered aubergine versus my two-week old seedlings. Sounds fair to me. Bring it on! :rotfl:
Mine are Pot Black. Can you remember what yours is?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
mine was free off freecycle, so I have no idea. I think I deserve a head start because I am a lot more useless than you, don't really have anywhere suitable to grow it, have worse weather, and am prone to making plants magically turn into spuds.
Bring it on.
Who wants to judge and what are the rules?0 -

The rules should be to grow an aubergine. Annie & John can tell us which one wins. I don't think we should ask how we'll be judged; that would spoil the fun.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
that'll do.0

A big hello back to you my dear MrBE!:j
I had issues last year, which ended up meaning that growing dinner wasn't as prominent for me as usual. Not that it mattered given the weather.
Like your good self, & no doubt all other posters, lets keep everything crossed for some good growing weather this year!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Morning all ,can I join in please :-) i have just bought a new green house ordered it Thursday morning they said about 14 to 16 days for delivery got it Friday afternoon lol not ready for it at all ,so hoping to make room & put it together over the weekend .
Hope you have fun putting it together my friends took 3 whole days to put mine up (two of them) hubby and I would have killed each other if we had done it on our own.
We have some nice sunshine today and the greenhouse got lovely and warm. Got my begonia tubbers in and also brought the strawberry pot & an overwintering geranium in to the green house. Sown some parsley seeds, thyme, and some flowers. Starting small dont want to end up with loads I cannot plant out.
